What's a good "high gain" dual band 2/440 NMO mobile antenna?
OK got it now. I looked it up on the DX Engineering site and read the documentation tab. I see it replaces the lower section. That makes sense. I couldn't figure out how you would use one on the base. LOL
Got it today. I was thinking it was gonna be taller. Seems well made and is definitely broadbanded out the Ying Yang.
Wish I had one of these when I was working. The County gave me Motorola high band mobiles for my car. I usually expanded my ham rigs to use instead. At that time, we used 155.160 MHz and the 10 UHF Med Channels. This antenna would have hit the spot back then.
This crazy thing has 14 set screws. I just snuggled them down without any thread locker. I probably should, though. I've had several screws on other antennas vibrate loose. The spring is quite stiff.
I cobbled parts and pieces from junkbox, to make a groundplane for for this antenna. Radials are around 18''. Turned out to be a sweet base antenna for my scanner and works great. Looks good, too. It is especially good on airband.
