If anyone here had the choice of getting either what would you buy. im currently in the market for a new radio. id like something with SSB for the extended distance. and id like a something thats a base so i have 2 choices that im aware of. What should i get

there the same radio just in different boxes. the galaxy does not have weather like the t. ranger. the galaxy is smaller and easier to put somehwhere. there are also more buttons for someone to mod to made do other things.

i say galaxy
 
I had the 696 and it is great. I think you can get it at the same price as the 2547 if you look around a bit. the 696 has a 6 digit counter built in 2547 only has a 5 digit.

I think they are the same board but ranger is better on SSB.

they both have 6 digit counters ? , same board as the 959 and 949 mobiles I do believe and more then likely a few others.

It's all good A-1 ! I guess it comes down to how much a person wants to spend concening these radios , all the same board and quality I would think ? Just some have a few more features then others and this is why the prices seem to fluctuate. I like the look of the 2547 as well , unlike the 696 and it's Galaxy Saturn big body pretty looking style , all metel knobs and frame , the 2547 kind of has begginners look to it with it's plastic knobs and what not , (I bet they saved some money there huh) well , if I could afford it , I'd more then likely get the 696 , and if it was a money thing for me and I wanted the same quality of radio , I could spend less then half the money on the base units and just get me a 949. Frequancy counters are nice , (and I've seen a few turn to crap after a while) but I can live without them , especially with these radios !! the channel mod is a very simple 40 up and 40 down , just about the easiest freq chart around. (-: ....and with the 949 , a whole let less things that could go wrong with it. Some times a little less can really mean a little more ,just depends on how one looks at it.

SAVE your MONEY.. Your can fine on Ebay and VERY NICE CORBA 2000 with everything you need a plus some.. Like being already setup the right way. More Channel's, Dial A Watt, Channel Grard, and ON and ON.. For About 250.00. And with the right amp behind it.. WATCH OUT Your SMOKEING.. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW..

I hear you and applaud you on not wanting to mistakenly transmitt
on a frequency you should not..

However it is very easy to simply put all the CB frequency's into the 706MKIIG

countless people without ham licences do the same..

But..

those who do....usally also wind up listening in on ham frequency's
then decide to go get their ticket

i would say get the 706 MKIIG

far better then those other less quality radios
