If anyone here had the choice of getting either what would you buy. im currently in the market for a new radio. id like something with SSB for the extended distance. and id like a something thats a base so i have 2 choices that im aware of. What should i get
RANGER TR696F
Galaxy DX2547

73's
CH 6 ill be listening.(its the only one i can here HAHA)

get a Uniden Madison or a Cobra 2000 GTL. They are one hell of a lot better radios. You can always find one on Ebay.

i thought id let you all know that im going to go with the galaxy, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!! It says that the galaxy has a feature on it that somehow magically adjusts swr. Anyone know how that works or can anyone give me more info about it. i have not yet got into the nitty gritty bits of radios yet. one of those bits being tuning the swr. i know in the top of my antenna there is this Really long metal rod that goes down the center of the antenna, i remember the packaging saying thats how you adjust the swr. can the radio really adjust it to 1.1 or what ever it needs to be by itself?? how does it do that. you guys never cease to amaze me with your knowledge. the description from the website im buying it from describes it as "Automatic SWR circuit (no complicated calibration procedure)"
THanks :?:

I'm thinking that it just means you don't have to calibrate the meter before using it to tune your antenna. You will still have to tune your antenna, but you will not have to calibrate the SWR meter before doing so. Usually you would have to calibrate the meter so that it gives you acurate readings before even touching the antenna, this just skips the meter tuning. Have I said the same thing enough ways?
