I prefer AM but really don't have anything against ssb. I use ssb often on the amateur bands. SSB can be a pain on 11m because of the quality and condition of the equipment. 11m ssb really gave me a bad impression of the mode.

Tell me more about all his 11 meter CW operation,........................

I was sending code with a cobra 29 recently and damage the final. CB sets don't take too kindly to CW.

I agree that the current crop of radios don't do SSB well. Now if you get a converted ham rig all things change.

Interesting point.

I'm using a Cherokee AH 100 walkie talkie, a Uniden PC 122 and a Realistic TRC 490 base. The Uniden Bearcat 980 I had sounded great but only lasted for 6 months. I decided to not replace it and stick with the old reliable gear, which still gets plenty of praise for the quality of the SSB signals.

OK I,ll ask How Do You Send Code with a COBRA 29?.

Connect a key to the tx pin on the mic jack. CW is an unmodulated carrier. When you listen to that carrier in usb or lsb it sounds like a tone.

If the carrier is on 27.205 the ssb receiver would have to be tuned a kc above (27.206) it if listening on lsb or a kc below (27.204) if listening on usb. That will make it sound like a 1k tone. Where the receiver is set will determine the frequency of the tone you hear.

CB 11 meter question correct since it's in the CB general discussion.

AM all the way. Only time I hear anybody on LSB is when the skip was rolling in on 37 and 38 mostly. Guess what? Way more action on all the other channels when the skip is rolling, and I don't have to listen to the same gator stations on LSB over and over.
