The battery is right behind the face its the small round quarter sized battery. Some of the older models also had the capicitor for powering memory storage. You cannot miss the battey if it is indeed that model.
The batteries in thos radios have tabs on them and if you replace with a battery of the same value from a local store you will not have the tabs. I had did a battery with wire leads soldered to it but you have to be quick with soldering to avoid damaging the battery.
You may have to scratch the area of the battery where you are applying solder to give it a surface to stick to.
Is there somewhere I can see how the conversion is done with the aaa batteries, does the case fit back in radio.
So I have to take the face off to get to it, this will be interesting.
I used the battery pack out of a butane lighter that had an LED light in it. Cost less than a buck, small size, and no need to try soldering a wire to a battery.
The battery pack is by far the best way to go. I believe they were doing this with the AR-3500 radios aswell to save settings in the radio. I wouldnt suggest anyone trying the soldering wires to the battery method (it was a pain in the @$$!!) And a person can use rechargable AA or AAA batteries in the battry pack mod
I have done this method in 2 of my radios, my Galaxy Saturn Turbo (Rebadged 2990 is what it is basically) and my RCI-2950. Both work wonderful. Haven't had an issue with memory since. I used a 2-AAA battery pack from Radio Scrap.
I went to the Shack & got a coin battery holder that the battery just pops in & out with ease. Soldered wires from the old mounting connections to the new holder and bam! Same type battery & a Helluva lot easier to change out. I just sticky-taped the holder to the chassis rail. Been several years ago when I did this so I'm not even sure they still carry that holder tho? Good luck.
