Which big black base should I get?

So I guess if you pay good money for a decent power supply instead of getting a free one give to you, like me, it would be quite?

What do you need to run? Whats your amp requirements?
If its under 100 amps a good switching supply or 2 in parallel would work well and if need be can be expanded later by adding another supply in parallel. Thats the system i use. Others prefer a linear supply with a heavy transformer. It also depends on your budget. You can get more amps for your dollar with switching supplys than linear but you give up a little fan noise with a switcher. I run 2 50 amp Megawatt switchers in parallel and find the fans to be quiet. My amp fans are 10 times as loud and i still dont get any background noise reports. Powermax i believe is another company who sells switchers that have good reviews here. You can also re-purpose computer server supplys which are fairly cheap and built to run at 90%+ capacity 24/7/365. Makes them good candidates for higher amp needs.
50 amps or less a good linear Astron will fit your needs but they arent as low priced per amp as the switchers.

So far just the Texas Star 400v needs power, other than mobile radios which I was kind of trying to get away from using. I don't know what their power requirements of the TS are, I was running it off of a Workman ps35, that a buddy gave me, and I did have noise reports through power mics.
I haven't used my thing in a few years. Seems like the locals were fussing feuding, quarreling and cussing, so I stopped.
Budget wise, I can stand a few hundred every once in a while.
So this is the switching type? That's interesting to me you can run them parallel, I'm guessing that sort of like truck batteries I've had.

No, that workman looks to be a linear supply. Linear supplys have a transformer inside.
You would do well with a powermax pm4 100 amp with a radio and 4 pill and still have headroom.

I have like 7 HF/VHF radio's running on External Astron Linear supplies...and have run switching supplies. Astron/Diawa/Jetstream...etc...
I however run better quality supplies.
Why would you spend big $$$ on all your radios/amps etc...then look for the CHEAPEST power supply system you can find????

In RV world they’ve an $80k Expedition pulling a $110k Airstream but complain “too expensive” to upgrade from an obsolete design $600 hitch to a (literal) world-changing $3k hitch. (The three have equal weight re “weakest link” understanding).

Ignoring fact and physics is par.


Thus I recommend you consider becoming a dealer and offering chrome cases, color-changing meter lamps, sound effects, and other extraneous options to jazz up bland, old, reliable power supplies.

Typically the switchers will be in a plain metal case similar to a computer power supply. Switchers will be smaller and lighter than their linear counterparts.
Xforce and others will stack and run switchers in parallel inside a custom built case often with added meters and a voltage adjustment. Unfortunately they want a pretty penny for a stack of $75 switchers, a stainless box, a meter or two and a 220v or 110v plug.
If youre somewhat handy you can buy computer server supplys cheap and make your own. It depends on your skill level and budget and amp requirements.

Seems like the 1st step, bigger power supply. Probably go with something like a 100 or 120 amp .
Apparently i was told the wrong thing years ago. Wonder if the TS is hurt from under powering it, or just made low power?

Well, I'd like a warranty, yes please. I'm wanting to get a larger power supply than I need so I can grow a station, if needed/wanted.

I run 2 of these s700 12's at 14v to power my radio and a 4x2879 toshiba Stickman for a year now and they work fine. If i need i can add one or two more. Actually im looking to upgrade further because i have Gatekeeper building me a 1600dx with 8 hg 2879C's in it so ill want something bigger than 200 amps soon. Im looking at a bitcoin mining set up that i can turn into an up to 400 amp supply for under $300 and ill never need to upgrade again.
