Which one would you buy and why

ah, but I don't need to change the curve of the earth with base antennas ways higher than the 55 feet they are supposed to be. the extra watts help there as well since you now have stations that are in line of sight from farther away.

I'm not saying there aren't limits, but in my march up the wattage climb I scaled up to a ts500 (retired) and every wattage increase led to increased communication ability, if nothing else, you get a vast improvement in your ability to power over the local hash and trash and whatever celestial noise happens to be prevalent.

Agreed.

Mobile to base is where the extra wattage will come into play ( DX excluded).

I am also a fan of the TS series of mobile amplifiers, and the TS500 in a mobile install with a good radio in front of it is the best bang for the buck there is as far as I am concerned.

The TS 500 can run on stock alternator and usually does not cause any problems with the electronics on the vehicle..

With that said you have STILL NOT identified what was incorrect in my post??????????

If your running it in a mobile I'd say the TS amp....but if your going to run it on a base setup, I'd be looking at a tube amp...
texas star if ya gonna run ssb
tnt if ya use am
texas star 500v is the MOST id put in a vehicle .bigger than that you get into extra batteries ,bigger alt, bigger charging wires.jmho

Man why all the harshness about the tnt line. I have used a tnt 600hd and a magnaforce 350hd for exclusively SSB use and never been told I sounded bad. As a matter of fact I have had guys ask what i was running as it sounded very good. Don't know why everyone keeps saying am for the tnt line. They are bias B and sound clean on SSB and are built well. JMO.

I like my Texas Stars but the TnT line by X-Force are great amplifiers. You might consider the TnT 600 (4 pill) or TnT 1200 ( 6 pill), nice amps for the money.

My older TNT600hd served me well. It was one made back when they originally came out. It does 600 pep all day no problem on SSB and don't get a complaint about sounding bad and the amp stays cool the entire time. It's a matter of opinion. Get what you want and don't over drive it. JMHO.

Some might not believe it, but from some reading I have done the bias scheme on both amps are just about identical in every way other than xforce uses 2 relays instead of one big one. Wonder how true this is. I know that my xforce does use 2 relays. Maybe one of the amp gurus will step in and let us know the truth.

The second relay, as long as it's not for the preamp, it is used for bias circuit for active switching. Meaning it should only have volts on base of transistors when amp is keyed. Much better in my opinion. Gives the pills a chance to rest as they aren't conducting all the time. Assuming that is what they are using tHe relay for.

Amazing how a Texas Star 500 with two 2 pill boards will swing 500 watts but a Sweet Sixteen with four 2 pill boards will swing 1500-1600 watts according to some................
There are 3 Sweet Sixteen owners around here and they only get 1000 watts driving it with a TS Mod V Plus.
Since they are both B biased amps it would be crazy not to spend the extra $50 and buy a real amp such as a TNT 1500.
