What is more popular in your area? Check for the quanity of repeaters for 70cm and 1.25M.
I have both Wouxuns the 2M/70cm and the 2M/1.25M. One I purchased from China for $104USD delivered in about 2weeks, the 2nd from Powerwerx for about $150.00 delivered in 2 days. The Powerwerx is the later model 3, but the differance is physical only, both work equally well. I highly recommend them.

I bet 440mhz is more active in your area. But I really like the 220 Mhz characteristics and wish people would promote/use it more. Maybe if you get the 220 one you can some other locals to get them and start up some 220 in your area if it's not very active. Check the prices at wouxun.us also.
I just came across this ebay auction for the KG-UVD1P that includes a speaker mic. It seems like a pretty good price to me, but compare it with other places when you calculate shipping
