I'm not talking "exports", just plain type accepted CB's. Got to thinking about it the other day when someone mentioned Midland (and certainly they are a front runner), but Rat Shack has sold a ton of that stuff over the years, and then there's Uniden and Cobra...Just curious what you think, or even if you have some hard data regarding the question.

Royce CB`s were often seen around here back in the day, but for sheer numbers/sales, yes I would bet a hambuger that R/S is tops.
There were a lot of "ratshaks" around the country.
If you had cash burning a hole in your pocket, it was easy to drive over there and see what they had.
Navaho AM/SSB base Stations.
Lots of Base and mobile antennas.
Tons of mobile CB models.
Lots of kids had r/s handhelds that worked on ch14, or a "A B C" switch for the 3 crystal models.
Morse code button on the side. no extra charge :D

What do you guys think?

I tend to agree with you, with Midland in 2nd place

Actually if you think about it Uniden has built radio's and chasis for several different company's including Cobra. That said Uniden is by far the biggest producer period.

True by a technical default, but I was thinking more of the retail end of things, and brand names, not who made the board. But on that subject (Uniden made boards), I'm sitting here in the shack listening to some DX on my Cobra 2000. Why am I not listening to it on my FT-897D? crappy noise blanker - You'd think Uniden could make a bundle licensing their NB technology out to the ham makers.....

It's Midland , more models then anyone else. Uniden ? well ,you know how that goes , most Radio Shack radios along with Cobra ,even some Midland brand radios had Uniden boards in them . But as far as who made more model cb radios , Midland has.

Motorola is probably not the smallest although they didnt make a lot of cb radios. If you go back to the boom years of the mid to late 70s when everyone and thier dog was selling them you can find some brands where there were only 1 or 2 models that they marketed.Lots of brands like Zodiac,Hallmark,Beltec,Apleco,Arvin,Actionline and on and on.
