Why echo?

Uhhh... Ya..Right. I need to break out my super trucker echo mic and use it more often

Maybe, you haven’t considered situations where that “extra” makes things intelligible.

Not as hobby.
Not goofing off.

Trying to get a job done.

I’ve heard an awful lot of awful radios. Most days feature several. Offering to help them SET that control is worth the effort.

It is NOT that Echo doesn’t work. It works well, and can be the difference between coordination and mayhem when everyone’s little 4-watt cheap radio sounds lousy. Fuzzed words. Company trucks with company radios. 25-30 trucks making LONG round trips. 4-5 truck firms plus whomever else.

If the truck wrangler or rock quarry manager or drilling rig super has a decent rig, everything goes well.

His voice needs to carry. Echo gives that quality.
Vibrato, by comparison to everyone else.
No doubts as to what was said.

because the listener, in effect, hears everything twice.

And if the echo is timed right...spatial effects occur...which increase the comprehension of the conversation.

You folks talk CB, AM Radio even FM as "something derogatory..." Why?

Ok, so you don't hear Stereo - but doesn't mean that those 70's songs were forgotten?

Remember Xmas is just around the Corner!

Ok, maybe not so much, but Carpenters developed a "vocalizer" that emphasized Karens' vocals used as a resonance to enhance the tremolo effects what many need to use more often to understand their kids...

But I digress from the remembrance of those efforts many artists made for spatial effects - ok, so you won't admit - but...then too...

Oh heck - You still sing them in the shower - the rest of the Hotel / Truck Stop / Motel 6 heard your effort thru the cheap plumbing...

You know who you are!
Now if the operator of said device can keep their fingers off the timing references and all those knobs...
Those of you from those "painful" 70's also know this device...

Come-on guys, I've tried to stay quiet, but you know that a touch of echo, and suddenly you can be heard better thru the comprehension filter your mind uses to sort out what could be food, or have to take flight before you become lunch...It's primal.

Some? Ahemn...just when they get a hold of something like this - well, tend to stay primal a wee-bit too long and never really grow up and try to use the tool properly.

I like echo when adjusted right. It seems to pick the audio up a little, whether real or perceived, it gives the audio more oomph to me. And by adjusted right, I mean to where you have to really listen for it and doesn't sound like you're talking into a cave full of parrots.

There is no "adjusted right".. Echo is echo whether a little or alot. It's a 11 meter chicken bander thing
To each there own

There’s a sweet spot to get Echo “right”. One needs someone only a bit patient at the other end to test settings who preferably has a good audio set-up.

A second radio as monitor is the other method.

Doesn’t mean that on every radio in every installation the setting would be the same (it’d be close, but that’s not good enough), nor that other problems might exaggerate the wrong effect (so leave it off and fix radio rig problems).

And did you not notice this is a CB GENERAL DISCUSSION thread?

Might have offered something you thought would be useful, like, “avoid Echo, it usually doesn’t help as much as would a high-quality microphone”.

Echo ain’t NEAR the problem of Roger Burps and just flat crap alignments. Most of the guys with these and Echo settings maladjusted you don’t want to hear anyway. Problem ain’t really a problem.

It's just one piece of the Huge puzzle that helps 11 meters keep the Children's Band title & Yes there are many many more.I have never heard it make anyone sound better but plenty that sounded far worse.I don't like Any noise toys just Nice Clean Punchy Audio.
