Yaesu FT 450D ?.

Up date on this radio....

I have been doing research on this radio for a couple weeks now, and have decided to order me one this week, what size PS should I get, thanks in advance..

The megawatt s400-12 is a decent little switching supply. I use one to run my icom 746. No issues with it so far. Been a few months now. They are pretty small and don't take up much space. Cost is about $67 shipped off eBay.

And to answer the amps needed, I beleive most HF radios require 20-25amps. Get one that is rated at 30 or more amps as to leave some headroom. JMO. Good day.

Good little supply with extra accessory jacks

I have own this one for about a year...Like it very well! Plenty of extra current to continuously run 2m rig/lights in watt meters and my Palstar Tuner...

Own one of these for like 10 years...
Some give these a bad rap(mostly those try to run CB amps with them)
Run my whole shack, after 10 years power switch went bad( would shut down sometimes when turned on)Took it out of line bought ASTRON above...Then later replaced power switch and cleaned dirt and junk out of inside...Now Nice Back-Up supply for ASTRON.

These switchers are just like Computers (anything with continuous running fans)
if you don't clean them(blow out the junk) every six months or so SH*T Happens
I tend to stay away from "Bargain" price supplies...saving $30-50 USD on a econo box supply vs. name brand full feature supply to run a $2k radio doesn't appeal to me.... My .02 worth!
All the Best
Gary

I ordered one of these radios, and the big brown truck delivered it 2 days late due to all the bad weather we have had here this past week......I have to say those guys do a fine job, and the box the radio was in, no damage done to it, even tho it had a long and rough ride...we had 14" snow here...

But anyways, these are nice radios and the more I play on this one the better I like it....

Congrats on the new radio. It is always awesome to unpack a radio after it's delivered.

Thanks.....I ordered mine from AES out of Orlando, FL, and that radio was well packed too.....Hank is a good person, and he answered all the questions I had.....

Made my first contact on this radio the other day, talked to KA6OCA Gary in SD, Cal, and W1IDP Gerald in Green Valley, Az.... Gary helped me get the radio fine tuned and said it sounded good.....just running 30 watts and a Imax 2k, was all I was running......like the idea talking dx and not needing a lot of power..

Now that you're a ham you should know that DX refers to working someone in another county and not stateside contacts. So , if you hear another US ham calling CQ DX he's looking for contacts other than stateside.

It is pretty exciting to work DX on low power. I've done it using CW and as little as 2 watts. I'm pretty much all SSB these days. The 450D is one of the best bang for the bucks rigs out there. I had one of the first 450's and was considering getting the D model.

Don't forget, you not allowed AM of FM on 10 meter. Also watch your band edges. Remember when using USB, your signal is up 3khz from what the display reads. I worked B1W this morning on 14.150, but since I was on USB, I was in my band. If I hand been on LSB, I would have been out.

Ok thanks guys.....the dx I have been talking has been guys coming back to me, I was calling dx, not them.....I haven't talk much on the USB, until now anyways, lol, but have talked on LSB for many of years on the 11m band.....worked some dx last night, just having fun since getting my feet wet, and not running much power here have the radio set on 30 watts, thats all I can do until I upgrade to a bigger ps...it's a different world for sure..

I don't no when the last time it was I had talked dx out west and didn't have all kinds of problems making that trip, but that was on 11m band.....I pulled all my 11m stuff off the table the other day, can't tell you when the last time I even turned my radio on, on 11m....
