Solder jumper 7 8 9 and 6, then reset the radio by holding the F and VM keys down while turning the radio back on

The switch position on the stock mic set to 1, and operating on AM seems to give muffled transmit audio.
Japanese needs better bass response compared to english. English speaking needs switch position 2.

In the configuration menus, there are individual settings for mic gains on AM, SSB and FM.
In function row "c" there is PROC speech processor.
You need to adjust all these settings for what gives the best audio for your voice.

I have no reason to modify the radio, it makes me the elite since it is not modified. :drool:

Now Moleculo is in Navy/Marine M.A.R.S. so it makes sense for him

I did this mod to my 857D before it was even ever plugged in. Be careful and use an iron with a very fine tip. I actually bought a Hakko 936 soldering station just to do this mod.

It's a lot smaller than those pictures make it look ;-). Use a fine tip, nice and hot and get in and out quickly on the pads.

Scary part about that,,,,, I was going to mod a TS-480HX for a guy, but i always run the radio first to make sure it works, well after about 5 minutes it just locked up and could not be reset, AES took it back and sent a new one, it worked perfect

I have been searching high and low for the newer mod.

Is this the complete tx/rx mod or the MARS mod?
