New mic coming from Yaesu with dual elements. Costs more than a new HF rig. Wow that good?

"The M-1 Reference Microphone is the ultimate, high-quality, innovative desktop microphone, dedicated to the most discriminating Ham Radio Operators. It features combined Condenser and Dynamic microphone elements.

The Condenser Microphone Element produces greater frequency response and clear, crisp audio characteristics perfect for being heard on crowd bands and in big DX pile-ups, while the Dynamic Microphone Element delivers the rich low-mid tonalities, favored for local QSOs. The response of each microphone element may be adjusted independently using the internal Nine (9) Band Graphic Equalizer. Each element has a separate volume control for independent adjustment of output levels. The output of each microphone may be selected separately, or they may be combined to produce the most pleasant tonality.

Both the Condenser Element and Dynamic Element in the M-1 utilize the Nine (9) Band Graphic Equalizer (63Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz, 8kHz, 16kHz). Each element’s frequency response is independently adjustable. Two (2) frequency response memories and a “through” mode are provided for each element, and are easily switchable by one-touch buttons on the microphone base.

The supplied TBC (Treble Boost Cowling) enhances the voice response around the important 1 – 1.5kHz range. Attaching the cowling creates a condensed unique tonal texture that is pleasing for many.

The PTT key uses three Air-Cylinder Tubes which afford a smooth and comfortable long keystone. The contactless magnetic switch ensures long-life and stable operation.

Other included features are; Recording and playback capability (20 seconds), to confirm the audio tonality; Large red TX LED Indicator; Large Graphic Equalizer and Frequency Response Scope LCD Display with anti-reflective coating; Headphone jack; Touch PTT keylock; Built-in low-cut filter to shape the low frequency response; Cannon-type (XLR) output plug connector; and Audio output volume control for headphones. Two screwdrivers are included to precisely adjust the graphic equalizer and microphone gains.

A while back I saw where they were coming out with this mic. I though the expected retail pricing was a typo. Guess not.

After looking more into the specs, it does have a lot of features. I wonder what real world retail will look like at HRO, Gigaparts, etc. Since it has both a dynamic and condenser element, plus a 9 band eq, I guess it's kind of a studio in a mic. The eq in the mic is odd to me, since most of their rigs have a built in parametric eq. Unless it sounds killer, I don't think they will sell that many, and I prefer a boom mic anyway.

.... Unless it sounds killer, I don't think they will sell that many, ....

From a marketing standpoint they really don't have to for putting it out there to be worthwhile, often having a desirable but out of reach item in a company's catalog helps that company sell a lot more of their lesser models. Between this and the easy 4k audio bandwidth mods it seems as though Yaesu is trying to position themselves as the "Hi-Fi" company.

it has lots of settings Like Stern,Dr Laura,George Norry,Imus, you can sound like whoever you want. Whats that no echo no way

The Stern setting has a sub menu - High pitched Eric, Beetlejiuce or Jeff the drunk. The last two add automatic profanity and are only recommended for 75 meter operation. It's a versatile mic for sure.

if it as its own Equalizer how would that work against a radio which has its own mic settings.wouldn't the factory mic radio settings conflict with the mic.because it wouldn't matter what mic settings you used if the radio factory settings are in place.
It does look nice.carnt see them selling to many of them. pitty really why do these firms have to be so greedy.
