Yeticom Optima MK3 Mobile

Question for the Optima owners: I was reading through the owner's manual and on Page 9 it states: "The Mosfet PA devices used
in the Optima will automatically decrease in power if they
experience excessive heat build up."

1. Do any of you run this radio mobile? If so how does it handle heat? ANyone know the temp at which the output power is reduced?

I'm curious if the radio would transmit 100% power in a truck cab that's been parked in La. summer heat (100 F in the shade, hot as hell inside the truck cab)

Thanks for any info.

When I first got mine I talked a lot and never saw the power drop off but the fan was running a lot. Even in the dead of summer here in New Jersey, the inside of my truck would be in the 140 degree area with the windows closed, I would turn on the AC and drive home with full output and no air blowing on the radio just me LOL.

What about the display. I drive truck and spend 3 to 4 hours in the dark. Will the display be too bright in the cab? Dimmer?
And what about selectivity? Does it have a very good channel rejection on AM as i spend half the day on AM and the other half on SSB. I was very disapointed about the channel rejection on the Stryker 955.
Thanks

Have had my eye on one of these for a long time. I love my magnum 257hp's, but am definitely drawn toward the optima as it looks to be built well. Have heard a few on SSB and they sounded great

I just bought one from coldfrontsales today... My ? does radio cover all bands after delivery...
(10/11/12) or do I have to modify it myself.... Thanks.....

im pretty sure theres come in ham mode,, you will need to remove the cover and remove the jumper to have export mode

there are 4 positions for the jumper,

1. NZ cb
2. US cb
3. ham mode 12m , 10m
4. export mode

removing the jumper completely OR moving it to position 4 are the same thing, the 2 radios I have don't have any jumpers in them and work fine

Got mine from EBay also from the guy in NY. Good deal mk3 new Mic etc he also has a new mk2 lister for 150.00. Will have a chance to use it this weekend there nice radios

Hello GROGAN I'm not sure where coldfronsales is located, the radio was $269.00
I had a $20.00 coupon from eBay so $249.00 + $4.99 expedited shipping, shipping is
free for standard post...They also tell you that it will come in MK2 box for some reason
but they also explain how to tell the difference between the 2....And for some reason there's no manuals included, don't understand that, no big deal i found manual on the web.... I hear these are great on the SSB mode.... who did you get yours from in NY..
if you don't mind me asking....73

From coldfronsales:This item is brand new. Never been opened. This item cannot be converted or tuned for it is illegal to do so. This item does not include the manual. You may be able to find this manual online via google. I am sorry but this radio is a 10 meter radio used only for Amateur Licensed use. Don't they come with mauals? I know the guy in NY peaks and tunes and does the conversion he's a few dollars more, tried calling them the recording says there not taking calls at this time, I emailed him back and ask
him what kind of business doesn't take calls...I wonder what the % of these radios are being used on 11 meter.....would 99% be pretty accurate....
