First it is a CB so why would a Ham with an Extra Class ticket want this?
Second he has the nerve to call Chong electrolytic "high quality". After making such a claim every thing he says is suspect from that point on.
Those are not first tier capacitors at all and not even second tier! If your lucky you might be able to squeeze them into 'third tier" depending on how each individual cap test's.
Had he used Nichicon, Panasonic, Nippon Chemi-Con, Rubycon,Elna or any of the other top tier caps it would be worth the starting price no problem.
At his BIN price it would have to have top tier 105C or 125C 3000+ our caps I think to justify $215 for a 40+ year old 40CH SSB radio with no warranty and no option for return! Unless you are an are an Extra Class Ham.
He might as well has said you have to be a white male over 21 that hates Muslims, Jews and Black people, likes to oppress women and drives a Lexus in terms of putting a ridiculous condition that has no merit for justifying the ability to do a return!
I am guessing he did not check the ESR on each cap or check for leakage and such on each one before using them. Freq. if you check the esr on a large batch of Chinese brand caps only about 1/3 will match the specifications. Even if they pass those test's these bottom feeder capacitor brands have a history of failing usually in less than 2 years! Any part can fail with out warning but you expect the better brands to do a good enough job at quality control that they have few poorly made examples of their breed leaving the factory.
All of the top tier brands make some lines that are affordable and at least as good as what would have come in these radio's long ago. An 85C 1000hr Nichicon, Panisonic, Vishay is better than anything Chong, ChengX, Lelon etc...makes. This radio is worth less to me having been recapped with these cheap caps. First I do not know the level of this persons skill given their poor choice in brands of capacitors their skill and judgement is suspect. If they will mislead people about the quality of the parts they used there integrity comes into question. So as soon as you purchased it you would have to either re-do the re-cap yourself or send it out to be re-caped with parts you can trust from someone you also trust to do a proper alignment on the radio as well.
What is next Smallpox's infected blankets to maximize profit margin? Maybe put industrial waste in toothpaste to avoid disposal fee's? I know we can use low grade toxic contaminated bulk food stuff to make pet food that will kill your pet slowly after damaging their immune system or nervous system! We can outsource all CB radio production to the lowest bidder in China with ZERO quality control and the cheapest parts.
"Extra Class" as a requirement or condition for return.....I laughed so hard at that I almost wet myself! I hope he sells two soup can's with string between them again with the condition that only "Extra Class Ham's" can do a refund should their soup can's and string be defective! The soup cans will likely be ones he purchased from Shen Zen(sp) and will loaded with heavy metals the string will likely be made with sintered asbestos because this sort of set-up is exactly what ever "Extra Class Ham" is dying to get his/her hands on and use! None of those lot could ever recap a 40 year old CB or align one.
