Which radio would you buy if...
You wanted a 10 and 11 meter radio that has AM/FM/SSB.
A built in freq counter, and a good sized meter movement.
Legal for a HAM with a Tech ticket.
Power isn't an issue, as I am picking a legal but decently modulating radio?
Can it be done for $250?
(y)

The 93t is decently priced with 70 watts output all mode, Frequency counter and an ACTUAL meter.

That or a cobra 200gtl which are great rigs when kept to about 90 watts output.

other than those my favorite are the 2950/70's and HR2510...just no meter movement ALL LCD.

All rigs listed can be had for well under $250

I'll also kick in on the 2950, living without the great meter movement. Can't beat the full-range, no skips frequency coverage. Run one now and have had several others. Loud audio and will peak & tune up more power & audio.

As far as legal for Tech ticket you have to remember none of these exports are FCC type accepted radios so if we were to be tecnical well I have to say none of these now alot of people dont care about the acceptence thing I like and own 2 HR-2510 but as far as good sounding radio and features included you can benifit from along with super easy running AND CONTIUOUS TUNNING (no bands to switch through) of all these radios RCI2950 hands down with a external amplifier there ya have a great setup.

You dont have a radio that does High power may feed high power RF around the radio and worst of all into the audio circuit and gets flaming hot while pounding the piss out of it to the point it starts getting funny sounding and when you upgrade to general its easy to upgrade to a bigger amplifier for the higher power limitaions of the higher license (y)

i really like the looks of the GI JOE'S - RANGER SUPERSTAR RADIOS - SS3900 SS158Dx - SS39 ss158 but ive heard theyre not much better than the galaxy 99s etc for SSB

like you rob i plan to use whatever i get on 10M as well so sideband quality iss very important to me

the 2510/2600 is a great radio but a bit of a PITA in the mobile with the small display

anybody know anything about the emperor 5010/3010 ? a semi- local guy up here has one of each that he'd like to sell as aa pair and i was thinking about grabbing those from him

I am between the Magnum 257 @ $186 and the Omega Force (which is $249+).
My finger is poised on the 'buy' button; which should it be?

I like the Magnum 257 because:
The mic has an adjustment on the inside that can kick up the modulation +2; power mike isn't even necessary(?)
It can scan
I can give it the 11 meter adjustment myself by changing one internal jumper.
It's $186 @ Copper Electronics
DISLIKES:
Only one - it doesn't have a real meter for swing and S units.
But - isn't that what meter bridges are for?!? lol
Someone - talk me into the Omega force and out of the Mag 257
Can you do it?

Also - what kind of antenna tuner will I need to make it work on my cheesey $15 garage sale 1/2 wave antenna w/ my RG8/U Foam? Why don't they put auto-tuners in these radios if they have such a large change in meter length/freq?!!?
Newbie help - Pleez!

BTW . NO export/ 10 meter radio is legal for use on 11 meters ticket or not . too much power and not a type approved device for cb communications .

Legal....schmeagle. This site does not look down on "advanced" CB operation. Heck, don't forget we're in the EXPORT Radio Forum.

THANK YOU WWDX for having an export radio forum !!
