At what point do you become a "big strapper...big beams and boxes.?? The guy that got me into radio 25 years ago had a moonraker 8 ...and a 6 element V quad...the vquad was only 20ft off ground...but holy crap it talked...he ran tube everything and worked 28 and 6 bowl...MISS THOSE DAYS...and to me he was a big dog

I would think that if you haven't ranted for 20 minutes about the fact that you "Just Got Down" that you aren't a big strapper, and have no maul.
Don't do much. AM dx'ing but when I do I stay off 6 all together. Mostly over modulated over driven and ten stations keying at once. 28's not bad at all. Sonar 2340, demco modulator, Palomar 300a imax 2000 and a stock d104 usually does the job. The bowl's a joke IMO.
If the FCC hasn't kicked your door down and dragged you out, your "Hammer" isn't that big.

Don't you mean and then you REALLY grow up and move from AM to SSB and THEN you realize that 100 watts and a wire is MORE than enough to work the world? IMHO DXing on AM is like taking a pocket knife to the battle of Little Bighorn.
Guys...the base station that I am referring to didn't use alot of power...he just had big beams..he ran a little 2 tube box probably 150 watts...i just remember as a kid driving around a (very small town) during CB hunts how loud he was and he's now a Ham radio guy and has long packed in his 11m gear....he enjoys the 20/40 bands...and he urged me to follow suit...great mentor

I've never seen a guide to the adult CB channels... besides, isn't part of growing up mean following the rules? which makes running 100 watts still being childish.

I guess you either just DON'T get it or don't WANT to get.
There is growing up as in getting older and then there is acting grown up. From what I have heard on ch.6 it sounds far from being grown up.
