got my ticket tonight

Finally the FCC steps into the real world and notifies you. Previous you had to wait until you show up on their database and check yourself.

Regarding the above post from tba02, unless you are currently a tech license holder, you can't transmit until you get your call sign on the database. If you already have your tech license and call sign, then yes you can transmit on the General class frequencies using the /AG suffix while waiting to get on the updated FCC database.

Not sure if that's what tba02 was implying.

You can also search your name on QRZ. com in about a week and when your name appears with your call sign, go to your call sign home page and click on detail tab and you'll see a link for your FCC record and that'll take you direct to the FCC database page for your call if you want to see this too.

Once your call sign appears on QRZ, your good to go.

Thanks for the info FSB

I wouldn't count on the Federal Clown Commission to count to ten with their shoes off. No recent examinees I know of have been notified of anything save for irregularities on their 605

Regards and respects to Fred and all that but AA7BQ is not the aforementioned authority. In point of fact ALL he has say over is a privately owned, operated, maintained and administrated Internet domain .
The only authority concerning your license to operate an amateur radio is the F.C.C. You will be legal to operate as a general immediately if you previously held a technician license by signing /AG appended to your call.
If you did not previously hold a technician license then you will have to wait for the ULS database to show your call.

Some small confusion exists here as depending on how the application is filled out or filed it may be first, middle, last name or last name(,) first name, middle.

@fourstringburn no offense intended :)

No offense taken.

The reason I said to check QRZ is because when your call is now in the database, it's also on QRZ and nearly instantaneous. It's also easier to check and search on QRZ, that's why I suggested it because the exact database link for your call is there on the details tab.

I never received any notification from the FCC either but things have changed some because you no longer are sent a licence in the mail. Now you download a watermarked PDF file from your FCC database page. Most of us don't like this new process because previously you were sent a more official looking printed card and even a wallet sized one, now it's just a piece of printer paper you print your self.

We should ask Cold war vet to post the new process steps of officially obtaining a new licence after he receives it.

The're are some VEC groups who have the ability to file(upload) testing apps directly to the FCC database, and new call info can happen in like 48-72 hours.
(Group here near Indy does that. Testing session was on Friday and FCC had updated licence info posted Monday evening).
Other groups still send via priority snail mail...never know

Unlike the OLD'EN DAYS:rolleyes: when I got my first call and you had to wait for the Hard Copy to arrive in the mail before you could use your privileges.
I waited 98 or 99 days before I got mine! (14 weeks):eek: It was torture!:confused::mad:

Exactly. QRZ links directly to the FCC and Industry Canada's data bases and is updated basically in sync with their databases. Foreign amateurs must register with QRZ to have their info appear.

The Laurel liaison I work with files electronically . 48 HRS tops .
The ARRL liaisons I work with are mail in and electronic backup. 10 days max.
Have had two cases of felony documentation answered within 6 and 11 working days.We give the applicant the choice of a open or sealed communication with the FCC.
Professional legal advice is available due to one of our VE's practicing law.
I too remember when it took for evvvvvvvvvvver . I think waiting for my 1st Class/GROL was premeditated torture intended specifically for me because I did remove the tag on the mattress. 8 weeks it took and I was already back aboard. Comedy ensues, we put into Dutch Harbor AK and a FCC field op/agent is there for other reasons. He gives me a quick oral that consists of , don't die, don't kill anyone else, don't piss anyone off, battery maintenance, checks my pulse and rubber stamps me on the spot. So I actually took my 1st Class/GROL twice. I got my radar endorsements the same way. No one else wanted to deal with it other than to cook hot dogs .

If you have the time and inclination take the VE open book test and submit to the ARRL. Submitting to the LARC is just the same w/o the test. Teach, mentor, test,elmer...

Yeah, I made the (incorrect?) assumption he had his Technician license already.

Did you take the Technician and General test on the same day? I think most VE groups upload their test results and in most cases you will have your call sign fairly quick. I tested on Saturday and had my call sign by Tuesday.
Tallman i took both on the same night took the tech passed it then took the general passed it they asked if i wanted to take the extra but i declined

The worst of it was that you'd get a mailing from the Little Print Shop advertising their QSL card printing. It would show up in just a couple weeks and would be addressed to you with your new callsign that you now know but can't use yet! I bet many did though!
