Best way to add variable power

What is the best way to add a variable power to a 148GTL Side mic using the swr cal control?

It's the one made by galaxy ept148 something can I just hook it to the swr cal after pulling the board pot or do I need to add some resistors in the mix as well?

Cut a trace as marked red and put potentiometer there.

Mike, I think he was referring to replacing VR10 with the SWR Cal pot to control the AM carrier level, rather than controlling the voltage to the Pre-Driver. But that will work, too.
