    HT's Getting Hot

I've read that when using an HT, you shouldn't use high power/5 watts for more than 30 seconds, with a pause of 2 minutes in between transmissions or the ht will over heat and can cause damage to the finals. If so, why do the manufacturers build these radios with 5 watt output power to begin...

    10 Meters

Thanks for the replies everybody. I'm shooting for my general class license and I thought 10 meters might be a good place to get my feet wet. I'll concentrate on my license right now and worry about everything else afterwards. Thanks again. Bob

    10 Meters

I'm studying for my amateur license and I'm really interested in 10 meters. As I understand it, under the right propagation conditions, 10 meters is capable of world wide DX. I've also read that a lot of the time It's local communications of 40-50 miles only. 40-50 miles? I'm tempted to buy a...

I Can't Stand It Any Longer

I've been interested in amateur radio since I was ten years old and asked a guy what his "I'm a Ham" bumper sticker meant. He was nice enough to explain the basics to me and showed me his radio. Thirty six years later and I still haven't gotten my license. I recently purchased a portable...

    Grounding Help

Thanks for the reply Wire Weasel, I appreciate it. I wasn't sure what was supposed to be grounded, the radio or the antenna. You were right on with the antenna length too. I had 25' of wire left over from my first project, so I put it up last night. I seem to be able to receive almost everything...

    Grounding Help

I recently bought a Grundig G3 shortwave radio and put up a 14 ga., 50' insulated solid copper wire antenna. I used a smaller diameter multi strand copper feed wire in to my radio with an alligator clip to connect it to the radios whip antenna. What would be the best way to ground this set up...

    Grundig G3 Globe Traveler

I'm new to SWL and I'm looking at the Grundig G3 as a starter radio. Does the G3 receive the utility bands? What can I expect to hear on the radio? I'm very interested in short wave and would appreciate any help that I can get. Bob

Thanks for the welcome and all the help. I'd love to own the satellite, but don't want to spend quite that much on my first radio. Now that I have a better idea of what I need, finding a radio is going to be a lot easier. A friend actually suggested buying a scanner and programing it for the...

Hey everybody. I'm new to the site and SWL. I like the looks (and price) of the eton 350DL. I'm interested in aviation, ship to shore, military, etc. as well as the broadcast bands. I'm wondering if the 350 will receive these transmissions. Any info is appreciated.
