Microphone Wiring (Turner +3 to Uniden Washington)

Thanks for your help with this one. I have a Turner Plus Three microphone with 3 conductors (red, black, white, plus the shield) that I'd like to connect to a Uniden Washington (5-pin ). The original materials for the Turner say black and red are for control switching, white is the signal (hot)...

    Uniden Washington help

I recently picked up a Uniden Washington that seems to work fine, other than a popping noise that occurs over the speaker anytime a switch is used. It's heard when the channel is switched, but seems loudest when the knob is turned between am, lsb, and usb. Also when the unit is turned on. It...

Coax type for 11 m dipole

Is RG58 fine to use for an 11 m dipole lead (no amp used, so no more than about 15 Watts on SSB), with a run of about 50 feet in an attic? Or do I need to use something like RG8X. Or, what other type would you recommend. Trouble is my only cable source in town for RG8X is really expensive, so I...

    Dipole questions, cont'd

Thanks guys, So the bottom line is that if you are unsure in any way (or can't spend the $) whether you have good lightning protection, then just disconnect the antenna lead and get it far from the house? That's about the best lightning insurance you can have?

    Dipole questions, cont'd

Thanks to everyone for the help with my previous questions about dipoles for cb. On the subject of lightning protection, I think I've just about reached the end of the internet, and im still unclear on what to do. Lots opinions from fancy expensive protection systems to very simple advice to...

    Dipole questions

Thanks, Beetle. I appreciate your help. Looks like i'll have some fun experimenting with setup. I am concerned about the lightning protection for the house, so ill do some digging on the forum as you suggest. Does the radio in the house need to be grounded in any way?

    Dipole questions

I'm fairly new to radio so thanks for your help. I installed a cb in my pickup last year, and now I'd like to use my second ssb cb as a base station at home. Rather than mounting a vertical antenna, like an Antron or Imax type, I'd first like to experiment with a simple dipole, that I'll either...

    Uniden 980ssb Power adjust

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your advice. By the way, there was great skip today. I live in northern minnesota and have my radio in my truck. I have a larsen nmo27 antenna on the roof. I heard Hawaii, Florida, SoCal, and more today, but have picked the UK, new york, and others. Sometime i...

    Uniden 980ssb Power adjust

Recently bought uniden 980 ssb. Found the pots for AM and ssb power. Hooked up to power meter and AM is around 3 watts, ssb around 10 watts. With a minor adjust i can increase AM power to about 4.5 watts. I haven't tried adjusting the ssb. My question is, is it okay to do power adjustments...

    Portable Telescoping Pole Setup Help

Moleculo, are you referring to the 21' TELM 21 telescopic at Penninger? I was looking at that one but wasn't sure the 1.5 to 1-inch diameter would hold up an antenna that large. Have you used it with a 17-22' 11 m antenna? Thanks! If it works that would be a good option...

    Portable Telescoping Pole Setup Help

Looking for a telescoping pole setup for temporary applications at home or on the road. Currently it'd be used with a 1/2 or 5/8 wave CB/10 m vertical antenna, then for ham in the future. I'd like something that doesn't need to be guyed, or only maybe 1 set of guys that can be done in a pinch...
