Just thought I could save a few dollars by buying just a base.

I sold my truck that had a through the cab antenna mount. The new owner didn't need a CB or antenna so I kept the 1000 antenna. Where can I buy a magnetic base for it? Thanks, BK

Well I powered it up & it has awesome ears on AM, not too much traffic during my commute on SSB so far. Both radio checks I did said I was waay too loud, so I need to get rid of the diesel amplified mic that it came with & get a noise cancelling one. Thanks to Justin for the tune & the advice.

I just bought a "like new" (I hope) 148DX, what mods should I ask for to make it really work nice? An instant 19 switch would be nice, is that easy to do? Do I need a boost or can it be smiled on enough to stand alone OK? This my 1st SSB rig so any constructive advice is welcomed.

Thanks, The main lead is fused at the battery, I was thinking of splitting off (fused) to power the radio just for simplicities sake. One less lead under the hood. I didn't know if this would cause any signal interference/noise.

Can I power the radio off the same leads that power the amp? (Assuming I have big enough feed line)
