Any interest in a new forum section...

i'm ok with it

those that want to participate in it can and those that don't can just view the things they want... the moderators can pull anything they feel is out of line.

Nah can't see there being much radio related content in it. Unless ur talking about emp the only survivalist stuff u can talk about is wind turbines and solar cells etc

definite yes!

I think there is alot more topics to cover than EMP and turbines.

Survivalism is not just preparing for a mini-Armageddon, 0bama serving a second term in office, zombie attack, alien invasion or nuclear warfare.

Bear Grillis is a survivalist and I dont see him going on and on about conspiracy theories or doomsday, and even Bear had to call for help once or twice.

The world might not end by 2012, but that doesnt mean your world wont end, possibly in the most lame way like being broke down in the middle of BFE in a blizzard or breaking your leg on the applachian trail in the dead of winter.

Of course you never know whats is going to happen, genocide, starvation, natural disaster, plague, unrest, civil war, invasion, etc, its happened just about everywhere else on earth but the good ol USA, what makes us so special that it cant happen to us. I sure hope none of this does happen while I am alive, but if it does I hope it does while I am still young and able.

Whats the boy scout motto, "Be Prepared" and last I checked the boy scout hat does not contain tin foil.

And for those who do wear tin foil, it just makes your brain more appetizing to zombies.

If we can keep the topics centered around communications, and keep the politics and conspiracy theories to a minimum this would be a great idea.

well, anyone that knows me from this forum knows that i love to talk about conspiracy theories. LOL

but, even i can see that a section labeled "survivalism" or "survivalist radio" would have 90% conspiracy/political content, and maybe 10% actual radio discussion.

if i may offer a humble suggestion; how about a section called "field day".

this way, the topics would be centered around the "outdoorsy" aspects of radio, such as building generators, erecting quick antennas, or making your own batteries without the inclusion of the inevitable political debates.

just an idea, but i for one would love a section like that.

um, i guess my vote is yes? LOL

Ham Radio and survivalist mind set are very similar...

Take a place like alaska where there are vast areas without confirmed and reliable communications..
Is being prepared for bad weather or bad happenings wrong..
Of-course not..

It is these rural areas that ham radio offer communications in areas and or in situations commonly not typical to urban areas..

So how can one call a survivalist who wishes to be reasonably prepared for this or that and those that operate ham radio (very similar reasons..being knowledgeable and prepared at communications)..how are the two at odds..

They are not at odds..

I am for it

YES PLEASE. I keep MRE's and water in all my vehicles with tool kits and at least one form of comms, flash lights and other survival goodies.

Thanks to deployments and rationing my MRE intake, I have 3 spare cases I keep at my house. I think each case has 20 MREs. Also I scrub, disenfect and clean the top tanks to our toilets twice a year as that is a nice place to get clean drinking water from in severe emergencies.

Nothing like being on your own for a couple days and hunting or traping your meals!!
