Here is a page that compares CB laws from other countries-
http://www.hackcanada.com/canadian/other/cb_faq.txt

With all the discussion about CB and "hobby" it is interesting to read "Executive Agency of the Department of Trade and Industry" in the UK's defininition of "CB"

"What is CB Radio

CB is a short range radio service for both hobby and business use."

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/ra/publication/ra_info/ra246/ra246.htm

It is also amazing that the UK has 2 cb bands. One being a portion of the "freeband"

26.965 MHz - 27.405 MHz (CEPT) or ("EU")
27.60125 MHz - 27.99125 MHz

they gave us that band 27.60125 to 27.99125 back in 1981 after many petitions to government for a legal cb service, we think they gave those frequencies to stop your average joey converting the existing am/fm radios and to keep us from talking to the rest of europe who mostly have the same freq's as you, plus fm causes much less interference to other sevices here than am ever did,( there is no limitations on talking dx skip style in the uk just limitted expectations of what can be achieved with 4watts fm, we found out you could work the world with 4w fm and legal antennas back in the early 80's and it was widely reported in cb publications ) next we got more involved with europe and the 26.965 to 27.405 band was released to us but it gets next to no use appart from the odd trucker talking the pants off other peoples wifes lol and a whole bunch of noise from the rest of europe and the usa when things get skippy, latest thing is they are taking the original uk band away and deregulating the 965 to 405 band so no more cb licences, another change they made was allowing antennas such as a99/imax and gp27's rather than the original restriction of an antenna with a max of 1.5mtr radiater, the only mode we can use legally is fm, it does not matter what the authorities say very few will give up the uk band it may attract more people once its illegal just like when we pirated the am band you have there back in the 70's, most anybody thats really into cb radio within range of me uses hf gear with the rest using lincolns jacksons or rangers, very few people use legal cb's here and most use amplifiers, the authorities dont seem to care providing you dont cause interference to other services
