CB problem - no sound....

I have a Philippine made Cobra 29 that developed a problem yesterday - no sound. When I plug an external speaker into the pa jack and switch the radio to pa I hear radio transmissions, otherwise there is no sound at all. I would appreciate your thoughts on what the problem might be. I live in northern California (Sacramento area) and would also appreciate any thoughts on where to take it for repair. I've had this radio a long time really like it so I would prefer to repair rather than replace it.

I don't use an external speaker, but I did try plugging the speaker into the ext. spkr jack and got no sound. I'm also using the same mic on different Cobra 29 right now and it has no problems, so it's not the mic. I'm thinking it's something internal like a volume pot or something, but I've never done any electronics tinkering.
