I recently purchased the imax 2000 opened the box and started checking the parts when I noticed the top section of the antenna was slightly bowed I installed the antenna anyways I was wondering if this would effect the antennas performance any input would be greatly appreciated

I wouldn't think it would cause any problems. Just check for any damage like splintering and such. As long as it checks out fine on your meters.

If it was me, I'd likely want a replacement, or at least, a new top section. I used to be rather mellow, but now I pretty much demand good customer service and product quality. Just to many places not giving 2 shits about taking people's hard earned money.

I'm using it on citizen band swr is good no splinters but it's a eye sore with the antenna standing straight up and the top leaning over 3 or 4 inches I'm gonna call the tech Monday and see if I can get it replaced

I had one of those years ago, as I remember the top is so flimsy that it'd be impossible for it not to lean over.

Big problem here is the glass doesn't survive very long in the Aussie Sun.I had one that started to shed fibers after 8 months. I now tape or paint all fiberglass before I put it up.Takes about 5 mins to paint with auto acrylic out of a rattle can.Ant worked well though and survived some big blows.

i would return it no matter whether if if does or doesnt .
if i buy a product i intend to keep it a long time .
having a slightly defective one is not a good start.
maybe they will comp you something .

to me that is a huge inconvienance . demand quality products from the manufacturer. you deserve it .

That would be aggravating especially if you like looking at your antenna as much as you like using it to talk on and have an eye for perfection. My A99's top section looked a little cockeyed when I had the standard tip on it(my brother installed it)but after me swapping that out for the Firestik FS99,(I installed it)it's now straight as an arrow. I agree with m42duster on quality. Hey,they have a zillion more. Get them to send you another.

P.S. The grunts most likely packed the box wrong. A quality control issue. Let them fix you up.

Gee I could have sworn this thread was about a bent Imax-2000 and not about someone still griping about a certain radio shop.

 LOOK! It still is about an Imax-2000 and all it took was a good flush.

My Imax2000 looks like it needs a dose of Viagra(y) The top section is is flimsy on these. But still seems to get out no problem.

I just talked to a ham on the cb band. He says he knows a guy who co-phased two Imax 2000's 36 feet apart and used a RG11 phase harness. The guy get good results working DX. Sounds like a good deal!
