An unregulated switchmode (switching-type) power supply would be a real waste of time. Never have seen one, since they first started showing up in computers around 1979 or so. The "switching" circuit IS the regulator's main control element. The only unregulated supplies you'll see use conventional heavy 60-Hz transformers/rectifiers and filters.

Is it possible to be on a lake and have a homing directional beam being emitted from the shore so a person could navigate to that beam's source? For example at night to a jetty.
