Just found this in my garage. My wife's grandpa was a radio tech, TV tech, anything old electronics tech. This, I'm assuming, was a power supply he used when he operated radios.

I just received my Uniden Grant today and plan on using this power supply (provided it will work) with this radio.

Input: 115VAC
Output: 12VDC
4 Amps
Input Power: 80 Watts

Model SPS4

Think it'll work?

4 Amps * 12 VDC = 48 Watts? Correct?

Yep. A little thing called "efficiency" rears its head.

I have a little 3 amp B&K power supply on my bench. The only thing I use it for these days is to run an old analog-tuned car radio which I have connected to a pair of 30-year old Sony speakers. Puts out some really nice sound in the garage while I'm working on one project or another.

Figure out the theoretical power requirements for your radio, just as you did in your example.

Then double it.

Then double THAT. Pick a power supply with at least that amount of current capability.
