Never herd of it...And it was a bit before my time...
Here's a link to the Smithsonian article - might even be some Canadians who don't know about this...

The one subject I liked back in my High School days was History. Not so much European History, like the Roman Empire or anything dating back in the BC era...But American History and WWI and WWII stuff...But very little was ever discussed or studied on Canadian or Mexico History...some, just not much...
We may-have touched on Halifax explosion and I just forgot about it tho, it has been over 40+ years since I was in school.
yeah, dem were the good 'ol day's!And back then, in that one-room school house, JJD was more interested in dippin' Betty-Jo's pigtails in the inkwell. Just sayin'......
When I was a kid, I had to go to the beach, catch a squid, and squeeze the ink into my inkwell. Otherwise I couldn't write (or dip Linda's pigtail).
After I told her I'd dipped her pigtail and was sorry, we'd cuttle.
(You brought up the "fishy" part, Garth!
"Red hair-ring"? --- no. Linda was a blonde. These days she might have a red NOSE ring...So the ink was just a red herring then.
