I have the original ss 3900 which had a loud pop on transmit in the ex-speaker
when keying up. There is a fix for the problem.

The 2 caps in front of the audio ic eliminates the nasty pop on transmit that is heard in the external speaker when the mic is keyed.

Bad design . Typical cb junk. The audio ic is switched off instead of being biased off as should be.

The wire in between the pa / ext spk jacks on the board need be cut so it can be soldered to pin 4 on the mic jack, it is not used on the export radios therefore the speaker is shut off on transmit. Same as most all cobra radios.

If you pay attention you hear the slight pop in the speaker on the cobra when the mic is unkeyed .

I got so use to the kenwood ts-50 not making the pop in speaker , that the ss3900 was driving me nuts.

It took me 2 years of research to find this modification.

Seems the cb crowd could care less. That includes the majority of cb techs.

Anyone have questions , I am willing to help.
