i have a friend that wants talkback in his 78xl. why? i dont know. anyone have any idea how to do it? i thought about switching it on and off with the channel 9/19 switch.
Pretty simle beleive it or not all you got to do is conect the ground of the PA and external speaker jack together. You put a resistor in line with the switch to adjust the volume. You can also put a potentiometer in place of the resistor to adjust the volume of the talk back. Th resistor way is just one set volume.
Another simple way is to run a resistor from pin 4 of the mic jack to ground. Does the same exact thing. A value between 15 ohms and 220 ohms should give you the level you need. If you go below 15, you will tend to pull energy away from the modulation of the radio.
Please advise me to what is a good replacement mic for my SR-497HPC... Answer: 497 is "wired like Cobra", so many choices available. That radio does not need a power mic, so purchase a stock "coffin style" mic with a decent cord, like the ones that Astatic uses. The Superstar DM-507 is my go-to. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3050474478...adANq91JSiEEnz8EGqPJRBloTgEyaVsBoCtoMQAvD_BwE $12.99 + .99 cent shipping.
