I passed my General exam today, they didn't tell me what my score was, but I'm fairly confident I only got 1 possibly 2 answers wrong.

Taking the practice tests on QRZ was a big help, and over the last couple of days I was scoring from a 91.3% up to 100%.

They offered to let me take a stab at the Extra, but I declined, didn't want to take a chance on wasting the 20 bucks I spent on Gordon West's Extra Class Study Guide if I somehow passed the thing.......:D

I don't think this club will be hosting another test session again for a couple of months, so I've got plenty of time to study for the Extra, besides I don't even have an HF rig yet, who knows, by the time I do get an HF rig I just might have full access to all the bands......;)

This one took a full court press because I didn't find out about the test session until it was only a month away, at that point I ordered both the General and Extra study guides, and got to work studying for the General. Plus being away from the hobby for so many years, I forgotten a lot of the basic stuff, so I had to brush up, refresh my memory, and get back up to Technician speed before I started to absorb some of this General stuff.
At least now I can take my time studying for the Extra.......

Tony,
HA! It's about time. Figured all it would take is a little brushing up, maybe finding out what a few of the changes were, if any and such. I also think that taking the amateur extra wouldn't have been a bad idea. Doesn't matter what you paid for the study guide, really, just would'a meant you 'absorbed' the information by proximity!
And just think, if you'd have passed it, you could have started the waiting period for the 'professional extra' class license. Sorry, that's all I can tell you about that class until the waiting period is over. Can't tell you how long that waiting period is either, secret you know. Several 'degrees' in that one, like them guys in the little red hats have, no ring though. Just something to look forward to...

And congratulations!

Thanks everyone, there is a certain level of satisfaction that goes with passing that test.
Now that I've cleared that hurdle, I've already started on the Gordie West "Extra Class" study guide.....(oooooh boy, this one's going to take a lot more effort on my part).......

From what I've seen so far in this Extra book, they require you to know, and test you on a whole lot of junk you'll never need or use, but they want you to know it anyway......:bored:

Kinda like when I got a part time job driving a home heating oil delivery trunk, I had to take the hazmat test and have that endorsement added to my CDL. They required me to know all the specifics involving the trasnportation of nuclear waste, I had no intentions of transporting any kind of waste, just deliver home heating oil, but I had to know it, and a lot of other useless information in order to get the Haz-Mat endorsement so I could legally drive a tank trunk full of heating oil........

Personally I think the Extra ticket should concentrate more on law, proceedure, curtiousy, being mentors (Elmers), operating habbits, and stuff like that, and leave all the particulars about SSTV, and other specific modes to those who wish to practice them. But if I gotta know what baudot RTTY is, then I gotta know.........;)
