Remove ALL of the conductive dried brown/cream color glue on and around components. This stuff will cause shorts when it ages with time and heat.

Use a solvent like acetone or GC Radio-TV Service Solvent on a Q-tip to loosen the glue first. Then gently pick and pull it off with tweezers when it is softened. Or the more time consuming but more effective way is to remove the component and soak it in the solvent, then remove. Don't go picking and prying it off with 400 pound gorilla force. This will cause more headaches.

Also, an entire re-cap of the radio is a very good idea. These gals are getting up there in age.
