Vintage Tram Titan ll CB Radio With AM Collins Filter,Parts Or Repair.

The Collins filter is for the SSB section of the radio and not the AM side. On AM these radios use no filter because the IF strip is tuned to pass the correct bandwidth. The Collins filter is switched inline during SSB to further reduce the receiver bandwidth.

This information posted about the use of the collins mechanical filter in the Tram Titan 2 is incorrect, I just want to clarify this in case someone is trying to gather info about this great radio....

In the Tram Titan 2, the AM 455khz IF strip consists of the Collins Mechanical filter feeding into a 6BA6 1st IF amp, then thru a transformer, then into a 6EQ7 2nd amp IF amp.

If you do not ever intend to use your Titan 2 for SSB receive (there is no activity on the 23 channels...) Then you can unplug the 6BA6, and 6BA7 SSB 455khz IF amp and product detector tubes. This will make your titan 2 run cooler and there will be less current pull from the transformer from the heaters.

On Sideband with the Tram Titan 2, when you flip to either lower or upper sideband, this turns on and enables the high voltage to the sideband 455khz and detector circuits/tubes 6ba6/6ba7. The 455khz IF strip on sideband is the Collins Mechanical Filter, 6BA6 Sideband IF amp and two transformers. A voltage is applied to the am detector tube to make it not receive am signals. The only "switching" being done in the Tram Titan 2 with these circuit is when you flip from am to sideband, it turn on the 6ba6/6ba7 by applying high voltage to them, but the Collins Filter in the tram titan 2 is static and does not get switched in and out, it is used for both modes, look at the schematic and read the circuit descriptions in the Tram Titan 2 user manual that came with the radio.
