West Coast/California DX contacts today . . .

Got another late start today. Had to buy a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, hard drive, and CD ROM. Finally went belly up last night.
Six years of very hard use on the old one so I can't complain a bit.

19SD348/Henry/Netherlands

68DT019/James/Ireland

Finally tagged "Henry" HPSD today - a WWRF member in EU.
That was cool!

James was on an old Cobra 148 GTL/DX. Sounded pretty nice for an older rig - IMO.

Man we have been having almost constant conditions in the daytime. Conditions here seem to be stronger on transmit than recieve. Most the time running 300 to 500 watts watts is more than enough. Most signal reports are s8 to 20 over s9. On the recieve side big stations may hit 8 sunits and smaller stations hit about 4 sunits. Talked to many of the same people you guys have been talking to. Its fun to cause some pileups with 300 watts. Havent seen the need to run any more but may have to check out a Ameritron in the future. My AM box seems to get hot on SSB. The sb200 heathkit does about 600 and works well but have just been running a 2 pill most the time.

Fortunately, I don't use power in my mobile. Since a small alternator in a newer car doesn't mix well. Running the Galaxy 99V and the Sirio Z-180, I called out on .580/USB when driving to the computer store the other day. Had my best DX in a mobile - to date - when I snagged a station coming out of Ireland to California. Since I was driving, I couldn't write down his call. But he was coming in between 5 and 7 S-units. He had me at/about the same reading.

I could have put a wet noodle up on the top of my car and snagged some DX yesterday. There were some other stations trying to call back to me at that time; but I had to take care of some business. Just 35 watts on SSB did the job! I was/am impressed. Conditions are still strong today.

Conditions were as strong as at they were a few days ago; but still in there on the freeband. Just not as many people there as there were on the 10m band today.

Did better on 10m today, with the Czeck Republic and the Slovak Republic as 2 new contact countries.

Wow...

30RC106 Victor 5/7 Spain
13IR057 Horst 5/7 Germany
13AT103 Harald 5/7 Germany
26KP644 Bob 5/5 England

13BRC83 Didi 5/7 Germany

When I talked to 13AT103/Harald/Germany, I was in my mobile using only 35 watts with the Galaxy DX-99V. My new and best mobile DX contact yet - considering my power output and antenna limitations.
Talk about great DX conditions - woof!

I talked with Harald for awhile also, he sent me some pictures today, but I can't figure out how to open them. They are a "ink file"........

I'm still waiting for my first Germany contact. Hopefully, they would send me some STANDARD jpg files. Crazy Germans. Talked some FM to the east coast today for the first time. Man, we all have to switch to FM. This SSB thing sounds like crap in comparison. I did make it to the Heel of Italy's Boot though (1KW001, Luciano) ...

Note to myself: Gotta start using a pen instead of copying them with a pencil.

10m yielded the best contacts today deep into EU. Jazzed about them. Russia (Moscow), Switzerland, Croatia, and LUXEMBOURG! A very small EU country that has few radio operators - Hams or otherwise.

Well, I complained yesterday about no Germany contacts. The radio gods were listening and I made my first contact there, 13TW227, Frank in Holzschuhgasse. Spoke with Tecnicoloco again today who I'm sure is preparing another unbeatable list!

Can't compete on the 10m front, stuck on 11.
