I've had my Yaesu FT-60r for a few years now , and it's been a great HT ... but recently I noticed that my battery was draining rapidly ... so I bought an alkaline pack to use in it's place . In which every time I put new batteries in it , they would be drained a few days later (without using it) . My wife also has an FT-60r , so I charged her battery (which is a new battery) and used that one in my HT (with her permission of course ... lol) . Only to find that after a day or two , without being turned on for a few days ... that battery was dead . So I charged it again and put it back into her HT ... and after a few days , it's still holding charge just fine .

So my question is this : Why is my FT-60r suddenly eating up batteries like they're going out of style ? ... and is it something that I can fix ?

I had a HT that did the same thing. The was a diode and a capacitor that had shorted and leaky cap that had a DC resistance of 400 ohms. All of this occurred before the on/off switch so turning it off did not protect the battery Pack. I just removed the pack when not in use until I got the schematic and checked it out.
