I had that radio. Bought it used from Craigslist ad. Had some fun with it. I got into it and turned up the power to high and blew out the final. Stupid me. Wish I still had it. It was a nice radio. If I do find one again I won't be messing with the output.
Welcome to the forum. I have not turned on my CB in awhile. Should do that though and monitor for SSB DX. Got my ham license this last year. Having a total blast with FT8. I'd still like to have some fun with11 meters though. Local traffic has pretty much died out. A few gravel yards are...
For those wondering about inverted V lowering the ends in a upside down V pattern will give you a bit more omni-directional pattern. It does create a better SWR match by lowering the ends. Easy to build. Way cheap to build.
I think I may try answering a few calls. Also love these to hear how well I can pick up stations. May be a problem for me though. Lately I have had a ton of QRM around my neighborhood. Solar panels going up all around me.
I did buy the radio. To be honest I am glad I did. It is in really good shape. I have programmed all of the local repeaters into it that I can reach. There is only one that I seem not to be able to. Not sure if it is working really or if I can't reach it. The 10 watt output does not seem...
Did you like your 735R? I love the form factor on the 726R. Plus I love it does not have a ton of menu items to dig through. This may or may not be good as I begin my journey into VHF and UHF. Local repeaters are very close to me. I can see the mountain they are located from my front yard...
Local operator is selling his Yeasu 726R. He is said to take care of his equipment by another operator I spoke to about this radio. Anyway I was liking the general looks of the radio but wondered if anyone here has had any good or bad experience with this radio? It is an older unit so I am...
As to the scan feature I do like it on my Bearcat 980. I use it just to find in ANYONE is even using the band anymore around Boise Idaho. A gravel yard is. This crew uses 25. A crew running around town doing something I have not quite figured out yet. This crew uses 8. There was one other...
Well fogdog I don't recall anyone with that handle in Eureka while I was there. I wen't by BigA . I worked at Pacific Lumber In Scotia. Lived in Scotia a number of years. Bought a house and moved to Eureka and eventually the mill was shut down over politics. New company has it now. Anyway...
You are right fogdog. It is very satisfying. Back in the 70s when skip was a daily thing I had a Pierce Simpson 23 ch CB hooked up to a Radio Shack PS. I had built a half wave vertical dipole and was using it as my base station antenna. First day up and testing it I got a DX response to my...
Well I solved it. Bought a controller and rotor motor from guy who got it from RS back in the day. He sent me a video of it working. My brother will bring it to me during a visit later this week. I get to try it and verify workability then pay for it. The rotor was turning a 20 meter two...
A trip down to local Restore got me some PVC parts for cheap. If you don't have one a local hardware store will do just fine. A piece of wire up into the vertical PVC and some wire for counterpoise connected to a SO239. Made a hook towards the top to hang it high in the tree. Got on my...
I was doing some antenna testing Saturday during the Labor Day weekend. I have been having some RF getting into my house wiring so I moved my antenna to a new location. During the test to see if I solved the RF intrusion problem I got a comeback while doing the audio test on AM 14. Someone...
BJ that was a great read. I have yet to actually build a quad. I tried decades ago and it just didn't work out for me. I didn't know about feeding it properly then so my SWR was crazy bad. Now I just don't see how I could get a pass on it with my wife. Thinking though a quad at 2 meters...
