The 1000pf worked just fine ! I did get some good swing back on the amp and SWR held strong ! Even put the AM/SSB delay mod back together with no problems that I can see (really holds the power and relay on the high side on SSB and hitting the switch on AM keeps the relays right) Hoping this...
Well Doc Audio , you called it as the schematic called for , it fixed the SWR on the high side of the amp. Although looks like I lost about 70 talking watts also ? So appranetly the 500pf worked in these boxes until they got to hot and lost there value , so back in the days , I'm guessing this...
Thank you guys again ! I'm feeling it ! I had to order the caps on line ! Damn it ! I remember the days when we had electronic parts stores and even Radio Shack back in the days could have helpful parts in there stores from time to time. I'll let you guys know how things work out next week ...
Much thanks Doc , Your right ! it did drop after modulating ! this surely gives me something to go on ,are you talking about C-16 ? it's 120pf . Thanks again ! Switch
Swr this and that fine and dandy , still have the same problem I have been addressing . Something is obviously out of wack in the tuning section ? , looks like I'm on my own from here ? Much thanks as always for any input that came my way on this one . Thanks much. Switch
Thank you for clearing that up for me on the SWR , now if I could just figure out how to fix my problem because it would be nice to use the high side of the amplifier. Thanks
Well , disconnected Sideband mod completely , same SWR results on the High side Grrrrr ! even tried different sized coax jumpers and still the same ! Could it be a kidney bean in the tuning section ? but like I said , why would all the lower power settings work great ? I'm guessing this amps at...
Sorry I didn't explain myself better . The SWR bridge was after the amplifer and antenna and dummy load from there , and yes the switch was a mod to open the relays for full power on SSB and to switch off if I were to use AM without a slight delay there after which seemed to work...
The amp has very good SWR's on low and medium power on both antenna and dummy load , the problem is when it's on the high side SWR is in the red ! both on dummy load and antenna ? It's weird because it's very good on the other settings ? Thanks . Switch
I made a mistake , I had the wires on the wrong side of the switch , moved them directly across and all is working great ! All power modes in SSB with good relay delay , No delay on AM after turning off the toggle switch as it should be . Thanks to all that had anything to do with this thread...
Well the switch thing seemed to work the relays better on High power on SSB (much better then it was but far from perfect) but in my case the switch still needs to be on for AM as well ? because with it off it shuts down the radios receive but there is no delay on AM after unkeying so that...
Thanks Hd ! Just thought I would ask before attempting the mod . I'm guessing this amp is on the older side ? (but in very good condition) I can recall over the years Texas Star maybe fixing that problem by putting a rocker switch in the back ? I never really cared much for those push button...
From what I am understanding ? If I jump pins 2&3 this will allow me to run SSB on full power without relay chatter ? I read there would be a slight delay on the AM side after doing this ? Could I just wire pins 2&3 to a small toggle switch so I could turn it off when using AM to avoid that...
I don't doubt that Jeff , like I said , it surely seems like a mosfet world these days , even Chris Holland makes a few of his own in Ontario and hear tell there good amps , I know some guys running the RM Italy 703s and they sound good on about 500 watts SSB and they love them. I can understand...
I got a KL7405 (not V) new in the box a few months back , I'm no amp guy that's for sure but I have used a lot of them over the years and experience and listening to those that know have always helped me out a lot over the years (much thanks for those who have taken time to help out when they...
