200 cycles off in a radio that old is pretty good. on AM it don't mean squat & on SSB they can tune you in. Use it & enjoy the old gear, could just be parts aging & changing value.

The at-100pro2 display provides more info than the z- series, also manual fine tune. Spend the $50 now because your only going to want to upgrade later IMHO

I've had my 980 about a month now and don't regret getting it. I needed another radio like another bypass surgery but am pleased with it.

All LDG tuners initiate auto tune when rf is applied unless there is a pre-tuned setting in the memory at that freq. for the antenna you are on. The only time it won't auto tune is if the threshold is set higher than the antennas swr. at that memory setting. I have the at 200 pro for about 7...

Decent audio, good receive, stable on frequency,nice display. Nothing "meh" about the 980. For what they sell for I think it's a bargain.

If your gutters are the plastic kind you could run wire inside of them around the house and try it out.

With all the plastic in vehicles today & the sound deadening material they stuff in between panels it is almost impossible to get a real good ground. With out a good ground it is hard to get a good vswr. Try bonding the doors & trunk to the body frame.

Is the Sirio M400 as good as the original AS one? Only had the original many years ago,lost it to a hurricane in the early 80's. Put up a Telrex Rocket to replace it. Attached original Rocket photo & a copy of plans for a knock off that I have built about a dozen of for locals here. Covers...

Fan dipole good choice but if you favor one band build a Cage dipole for it & enjoy the wide bandwidth it offers & put up a multi bander for the others
