Back in the late 80s thru the late 90s we had a bunch here in town we referred to as the welfare crew. They used channel 14 and were always fighting and arguing with someone. Yes, 99% of them were welfare folks who didn't work, but always had vehicles and big radios in their cars and at home...
Have you heard the delusional echo king on 425 declaring it the weed channel? Talks as much as Hard Drive but sounds like he's taking into a cardboard pipe. Actually hurts my ears.
I modded one like this and got it to 14.5v easily. The next one I tried was putting out 15.89 and will not drop. I removed the mod, no change. I removed the factory variable to check it and it was good. Even without the variable in it it is running 15.89. Can't use it. Makes a good paper weight.
It is a good thing that they remembered you and sent you the pieces. But, seriously, for what those parts cost them would it have put the company out of business to send you a brand new amp? Things like this just piss me off when the companies make a good faith gesture, but make sure they don't...
Sold off all my "Big" stuff and whittled down to a Stryker 955 into a Texas Star DX-500, into a Daiwa 901 meter, into an ancient Johnson #250-20 LPF, into a Sirio 2008 antenna. My microphone of choice is the Yaesu M-1 Reference mic operating on the electret cartridge.
You can always check on Ebay or elsewhere and locate a photo neutral density filter. They come is a variety of strengths so you can vary the intensity. Just use a piece of velcro or something and you can pop it on and off at will.
I saw these back in the day. Back much further than 79, but my brother always used Antenna Specialist for everything. So, naturally I grew up using the same. And then they were gone!
Was great making contacts with you guys! Finally get the chance to actually connect! Appreciate the QSOs and will continue to hang around 425 and see how things go.
Not meant to be confrontational, but for the life of me I can not imagine why someone would do this to a Stryker. The Stryker radios are capable of over-swing, or over- mod via a couple of simple adjustments. I may be old school, but I just don't get the idea that a radio needs to be butchered.
