I don't know if I would call that awesome, the freq counter was drifting like a sail boat and no one would come back to him. The 959 is ok for a legal 40 channel radio and thats about it. I would rather have a good clean used Uniden Grant xl. Nothing wrong with that Dosey, thats why so many...
I cannot believe I would suggest such a thing to do but here goes. Why not just buy one of those (junk) Stinger boards with a 1446 all in one package with directions and install it in the radio. You will still have problems but at least it will work.
In most cases clipping a radio is not what you want. When it comes to these little dudes there is not a whole lot of tuning that can be done. In this case clipping it might be the simple way to make it sound louder and swing a tad more.
Thats pretty cool that you can do that, and I see what your doing now. I guess what I just laugh at is some drivers for example, they get a new radio that is working and sounding like it should and then every other truck stop they stop at they have someone tinker with it over and over.
It seems every time I want to log in I have to go to internet explorer, the forum does not like my AOL. It says i'm logged in but when I go to view a topic I get sent to a log in screen, and that screen shows i'm already logged in.....weird.
The 959 is a nice radio. If the new version tunes up nice as is why monkey with it? If it can already do say 40-45 watts then 50-60 would serve no purpose and no one would even notice.
I'm no tech here but if you have a new version 33 with Mosfets why screw with it? Have a correct conversion, tune, and alignment done and leave it the heck alone.
There is a good choice right there, send it to DTB. If it has been tinkered with then you are correct, probably needs a good going through. I had a brand new un-tuned 99 that after just a conversion did 25 watts peak. People on all these forums and shops will throw out wild wattage claims and...
I'll give the dead horse one kick, your right on Master Chief. Give your radio a nice clean correct tune and alignment with variable power and get a good amp.
" In all my years in radio, I've never heard this...usually using FM or something along those lines... "
This is very common and I think it's odd you never heard of this. Alot of delivery centers and grocery loading docks will have a "company channel". When drivers get close they know what...
First question would be what meter are you using? Has the radio ever been tuned? Most Galaxy 99's with a simple tune and alignment will do 30-40 watts. If you start getting exotic and swap out parts 50 watts is possible but not normal. Just be careful of a shop that clips the limiter and then...
I have a very effective mod for those soundcrapper radio's, works great on Rat Shack radio's as well. Remove the radio from your vehicle, place the radio on the ground in front of one of your tires, then qickly get back in your vehicle and pull ahead 20 feet.
