The same shop used to do a 1969 mod to Cobra & Unidens. For several months they have I guess been doing a mosfet mod. They are in the 35-40 watt range. I think that mod is over on cbtricks.com

I just talked to a local shop owner. He said the new version Magnum S9 has mosfets and does right at 55-60 watts on their Blackcat meter. This is not the S-980 version either.

Best bet would be have the radio bench tested, and have them check the receive. All those filter caps do is reduce noise that rides in on the power line. Some vehicles are just noisey, some areas of town same thing. Heck, if the guy was way out in the sticks then what you have going on is...

Do like these guys said and you should be fine. When I had my 667 I smoked two K-40's and a Radio Shack 1000 watt open coil antenna before I bought my Wilson 5000. Just remember keep the dead key under 100 and you should be fine.

K-40 makes a good antenna, they have one problem though. They use a Capacitor in the base to get the SWR flat across all 40 channels. The Magnum 257 is a stout little radio. Since it's a dual final radio I would hardly call it a "lower Powered Radio". I do like the 122xl but that is more of a Low Powered radio then the 257. With the right tune and a power mic they bark. A 257 will walk all over a 122xl, been there done that.

I had a first generation Delta that had alot of noise. I sent it in for a free up-grade while they did another repair and it was alittle better. I now have a 2002 model and it is even one step better yet. The latest Magnum radio's seem to be another step in the right direction as well...

Ditto on sending it to Bob's. There is nothing better sounding then a well tuned Magnum radio.

I love my Delta Force, best radio I have ever had. I would however skip it for 250, you probably want to be in the 125-175 range.

I'm still impressed with them too.......when they are siting on the shelf behind the glass case. Very impressive looking radio, but thats all they are is a good looking radio. The three that I have heard are very average on AM and weak on SSB.

The 2950 DX is a great radio, it's not very truck driver friendly though and no echo. If you have to run off the dash power posts a 95T or 4600 will push that to the max. If you don't need SSB but want alittle more juice I would look at the Connex 4300 or the Magnum S680.

Keep this in mind, a local guy sent his radio back for repair. Cobra sent it back tuned and converted with tamper sticker on it. The radio had a very conservative (weak) tune done for a pair of 2290's. They said leave it like it is and if the sticker is removed or broken the warranty is void...
