It was 1968: My first CB was an Amphenol Model 650, 23 channels Tx with a selector switch between 10 receive crystals or a tunable dial. The antenna was an Astro Plane bought directly from the new owner of this startup company in the next town, (Avanti in Addison, IL).
My Uncle worked for...
The best I can hope for is videos of the results posted on spaceweather.com. Here in the Chicago area we will only be able see a partial solar eclipse right at sunset. I wish I knew how to transfer some of the videos from the spaceweather site to the forum response boxes. But for now all I...
You luck West Coast guys get to see the whole show.

SOLAR ECLIPSE THIS WEEKEND: On Sunday, May 20th, the Moon will pass in front of the Sun, producing an annular solar eclipse...
Vanilla,
I see you are a man of many avatar's. But to answer your question; It depends on the gain of the j-pole. If built correctly a j-pole should have 3 dBd, and that's a fact. So you would have to compare your j-pole to the other antenna to figure it out. Simple math at that point...
I have a small mobile rig (IC-208H) that receives the band you're looking for and more. It transmits on the VHF and UHF Amateur bands (one at a time).
Here are the specs (for Australia):
TX: 144 - 148 MHz, 430 - 440 MHz
RX: 118 - 173.995 MHz
230 - 549.995 MHz
810 -...
Neoham,
Using the 102” whip without the spring leaves the antenna 7” short of where it should be for resonance on 11 Meters. Your antenna will probably be closer to resonance at 10 Meters without the spring.
Mounting on a bumper is OK if there is minimal metal from the rear of the trunk...
Waverider hit the nail on the head. You're just going to have to go breaker by breaker until the circuit with the offending device is located. Then you can go device by device on the circuit until it localized and taken care of.
I had a similar problem at home. The device was broadcasting...
When I did microwave systems at 2 GHz and 6 GHz we would routinely get around 30 to 40 dB of isolation between vertical and horizontal signals on the same path. So yes the cross polarization values do increase at the higher frequencies.
I believe Avanti Antenna used this principal to get 20...
The published facts: Isolation value between polarization is 20 dB. What's that mean? If one station is vertical and the other is horizontal the received signals with be down 20 dB from each other. Thus, if a signal would be 20 dB over S9 if both stations were vertical, the cross...
Bandwidth
Although a resonant antenna has a purely resistive feed-point impedance at a particular frequency, many (if not most) applications require using an antenna over a range of frequencies. An antenna's bandwidth specifies the range of frequencies over which its performance does not...
Your welcome 8valve. Just remember that this is an approximation; not gospel. You will find times when you can have communications with less than perfect facts and figures. That's what makes radio magical and mystical. Just use this worksheet as a guide; especially at CB frequencies. This...
Attached is an EXCEL spreadsheet where you fill in the following information:
1) Site #1, Lat/Long in Deg/Min/Sec (Get from google map or google earth)
2) Site #2, Lat/Long in Deg/Min/Sec (Get from google map or google earth)
3) Transmit Frequency
4) Site #1 & #2, Antenna Gain
5) Site #1...
The general formula for a loop is 1005/F(MHz). Loops are designed for the lowest frequency of operation and then provide even and odd harmonic operation from there. When using transmission line for matching it will normally be designed to operate on the design frequency.
Using 26.965 MHz for...

I think NVIS applies to any antenna less than 0.1 wavelengths above the ground. One of the net operators on Midcars uses a 40 Meter dipole 7 feet above the ground for exceptional close in coverage.
Here's a web site that shows the winding method.
http://www.angelfire.com/electronic2/qrp/unun.html
However for high power use 14 bifilar windings of #14 insulated wire on a FT240-K core. If you need to; connect any ground radials to the SO-239 shield side.
That should do it.
For what it's worth (I like longhand): I read that Maco bought Wilson and builds the Maco V5/8; and the Workman W58 is a copy of the Maco & often includes a copy of the Maco instruction sheet.
