    Midland 77-861

Neat old fully portable CB radio that isn't a walkie talkie! I have the 23 channel model of it. Had to replace the battery tray. They are often roached! You can find the trays on Ebay for a few bucks. I couldn't find the right kind of rivets so used small flat head phillips screws to mount it to...

    Ham Radio Question

I spent about 2 years on CB and once I learned about ham radio got my novice license. That was in 1971. I never looked back much to CB after that. I have a couple closet shelf queens but only very rarely turn on a CB radio to listen around a little. There is just SO much more to do with a ham...

Looking to Buy a NICE AND MINTY Kenwood TS 50S

I got a TS-50 when they first came out for mobile use. There isn't an easier rig to use when mobile! All the buttons in the different places are easy to remember what they are so you don't have to look at them to know what you are doing. If it had a separate control head I would still have it!

    Turner Plus 2 repair

I was just thinking I might try to make one out of brass shim stock from a hobby store. K&S has a lot of that stuff in different thicknesses and sizes. I have nibblers and a Dremel tool. It might be tough to get a good straight bend though.

    Turner Plus 2 repair

Has anyone got a good idea on how to replace the 9V battery holder or tray in the bottom of the Turner Plus 2 desk mic? They are usually made of a stiff cardboard that wears out and comes apart over the years. Seems like it would be a good small project for a 3D printer! I have a couple of the...

    was looking 86 repeaters

Here in Seattle I have regularly scanned about 55, 144 and 440 frequencies on several nights from about 7pm till midnight. Not much going on! Mostly a few nets on occasion. I can either bring up or hear all the repeaters I programmed. Only 2 are very active, K7LED and the PSRG repeater. They...

    TOMCAT'S CONFIDENTIAL REPORT/ CB UNDERCOVER! S9 Magazine October 1978

I have one. it's a pretty good book with a lot of CB radio history in it. I wouldn't sell my copy of it. I don't think there are any other books that cover the history of CB, are there?

    Old droopy gp

My first CB antenna was an Antenna Specialists Super Magnum. it had 4 full length steel radials. It worked really well. Went to an Astro Plane later on which also worked very well and was easier to put up much higher. Back then, the Super Mag and the HyGain CLR-2 with 3 full length radials were...

Pearce Simpson Bengal and JC Penney 981-6235

There was a 22A and a 22B channel between 22 and 23. Not sure what they were for anymore. Seems to me 22A was an RC channel and B was a business band channel but not sure anymore. The way the 23 channels were set up with earlier crystal synthesizing, 22A would be there but there were no contacts...

What are your thoughts on the VHQ Hexbeam

Look into marine grade fiberglass paint. It should last longer than most other paint. I have a Lightning Bolt 5 band quad. I just took it down for a few repairs after 15 years or so. It has fiberglass spreaders and they have a pretty rough finish. They were just really dirty so I used a...

Wondering if this radio ever made it to market or fizzled out !

You do have to be a little careful about buying used stuff but there are some protections with PayPal. Everything is about protecting the consumer, not the vendor.

Wondering if this radio ever made it to market or fizzled out !

Yeah...I don't know what the deal is. Why just a limited edition if it is popular? Maybe there was a limit on how many of certain parts could be procured so they could only make so many. You might find a used one up for grabs if you watch for it on Ebay. I saw one advertised on Amazon for $259...

    External Antenna Question

If you would show just how the antenna is broken it would sure help! If it is just the tip of the telescoping antenna (very common to happen) it doesn't really matter much other than it is harder to pull it up or collapse it. If what it mounts to on the radio itself is broken and I am guessing...

Wondering if this radio ever made it to market or fizzled out !

Looks like it was a "limited edition" so it seems it is no longer available.

what coax comes on the wilson 5000

First thing I would do is clip on an extra length of stiff wire to the top of the antenna and see how it goes as you trim it. With those SWR readings the antenna is already too short, not too long. Resonance at 1:1 (if it gets there) is going to be up higher than channel 40 by a ways IF the SWR...

    Hallicrafters and Heathkit collection

https://antiqueradios.com/ Good place for that kind of stuff to ask about or sell old test equipment. From my experiences with old test gear is that it isn't worth a whole lot. Do a search on Ebay for the make and model then check the completed auctions to get an idea what that item will sell...

    Radial wire longevity and such

I have a friend that is on 160 meters a lot. He has several acres for antennas. He uses electric fence wire. Inexpensive stuff and works very well. He puts down 90 full length radials on 160 and has constructed 2 phased verticals. That's a lot of wire!

    Mobile Ham operations banned?

Air horns around here (WA state) are legal as long as the horns are placed on the outside of the vehicle. At least it was that way the last time I looked it up which admittedly has been several years. I doubt anyone cares. I had them under the hood or up front behind the grill of different cars...

Icom 756 unit. Odd Transmit problem any help would be appreciated. (kf8bdt)

Yes. put it on a dummy load and see what results you have. It is THE best place to start troubleshooting. Any new info about it? It's been a while. Did you get it resolved?
