Also make sure that TR16 has not been removed or modified in any way. Check R72 as well, make sure that hasn't been changed. It can vary from 220 ohms to 470 ohms from factory, but some people remove it and put in something very low resistance, or install a jumper.

LC,
I ordered a pair of HG2879's, if they are close in beta to my single 2879, I'll drop the new pair in and slide you the 71 beta 2879 I have, since it's much closer to 67 than your 78.
Might be a week or two as they are coming directly from HG Semiconductor.
I'll let you know as soon as I...
I'm kind of in the same boat as you... I'm after one that has a beta of 71. If I can locate one that's around 67, I'll ding you!
P.S. What's the lot number on the transistor?
~Cheers~
Marconi, I have pretty much all of the hardware except for the 102" whips. I could see if I can snag some whips reasonable from one of the local Radio Scraps. We actually have 2 of them left here in Iowa, and they may have NOS 102's in stock still. I have the mount, the stud, and the A99 GP hub...
I was going to do that, but the base itself had taken some damage when the vertical section broke, and I wasn't able to save it.
I really wanted to save that antenna, but it was damaged too badly. :(
~Cheers~
Had one, snapped within 3 weeks right at the base. I also had a Sirio 2016 that did the exact same thing, snapped right at the base from the wind load.
Honestly, if the M400 would have survived the winds, I'd still have that antenna up. It was a wonderful antenna.
I'm going to steer clear of...
Hello fellow CB enthusiasts!
My trusty Super Penetrator 500 has developed an issue that will likely take some time to resolve, so that being said, I am in the market for an antenna to replace it. I plan on fixing the SPT-500 and keeping it as a backup antenna.
Here's what I am looking for...
Yep, I replaced C179, it was still original and intact, amazingly enough. I also removed the input/output wires going to/from the little NB board, and replaced them with shielded wiring, and my noise level went down about another half an "S" unit. Super quiet RX until I get actual RX audio...
This is my latest project. Bought this radio plus the mic for less than a C note. Did a full recap on the radio with a couple minor cap changes to open up the audio bandwidth a bit. I was chatting to a buddy and had a guy in DX holler at me, said I had FM broadcaster quality audio. Apparently...
The radio may simply need a TX alignment, don't rule out the driver and final being bad until you have performed a proper TX alignment first. If you have done an alignment and it still only puts out about 1/4W or so, then you could take a look at the driver and/or final being at fault.
~Cheers~
Junk... those mosfets drop output when they get hot, you'll start out at 400-500W, but as you talk on it and the mosfets get hot they will slowly reduce output, talk on it for an hour and you'll only be doing about 250-300W or so PEP. Don't buy one. Seriously.
~Cheers~
Yessir! I wouldn't be obligated to donate to the (very) local "non-profit organization" after all the bills are paid.... :ROFLMAO:
I feel bad for that guy trying to buy the antenna, though. :(
~Cheers~
It just depends on what you're wanting out of the radio, whether it's looks, or functionality.
For ease of maintenance, easy modifications, while still sounding great, Cobra 2000 all the way. The Console V is a great radio if it's already been serviced, as they are known for solder joint issues...
LC,
That video seriously gave me a migraine.... that's the worst thing I've seen in a long time... and I've seen some crazy stuff in my years of doing tech work. The 2x8 amp I'm working on is pretty bad also, but nothing like that 200A PSU.
I talked to John at Mega Watt directly about diode...
Thanks, Tallman! That's what I was looking for. So John has the diodes set up on the negative side, not the positive side. I will get them all fixed up!
~Cheers~
The amp is a 2 x 8 2879 box.
It runs (5) of the Mega Watt 36A switching supplies in parallel. The supplies don't like being ran in parallel, hence the reason why I'm asking about diode isolation.
~Cheers~
No, it hisses all the time. If i disconnect all the positive wires from the +12V rail on the amp, and then I touch any two positives together out of the five (the grounds are all tied together on the -12V rail), making them parallel, they hiss... it doesn't sound good. They don't play well if...
