Well...No problems whatsoever with mine dash mounted...Been hooked up over a year and I get nothing but good reports back...Heat definitely has not been a problem, as the inside of my truck during the day reaches well over 120°, and there's plenty of times when I get long-winded on the radio...

RK's are junk too...which is understandable since I believe they were bought out by the same people who bought out Astatic! Wires are too thin and brake in the connectors, hardly any solder is used to attach the thin wires either so if they don't brake, they just pull lose... SRA 198 is...

I talked to someone over at Lightning about that, and way he talked it would change the tuning characteristics of the antenna, making it sound like it might not tune properly... At that time I was getting so frustrated with having to bring down the antenna every other month to fix broken wires...

Well...you don't have to do the dual polarity thing if you don't want to...just instal the vertical wire and tuning rod and leave the horizontal parts off... might even be easier to tune doing it that way...

I wouldn't give up on the L2...The L4 I had tuned pretty good, under 1.5 SWR anyway...As for those sheet metal screws that hold the spreaders together, what I did was just drill a small hole right threw the spreader and installed nuts and bolts to hold everything together...(using hose clamps...

Best Mic on the market, I've got 4 of them but a couple need the switch fixed...I'm kinda surprised anyone still has any in stock...I was told last year they had been discontinued from production.

If your going quad, bite the bullet and get the 4...Just be sure when you put it up...you won't have a problem bringing it back down to do repairs....
