This article is for tubes but tuned inputs are tuned inputs. Some circuits are more finicky about coax length than others.

The Icom 7300 makes pretty good AM. If you can live without the super swing mods, echo and CB style channel selector it's a better way to go IMO. Older solid state ham rigs usually sucked on AM.
It's a long run but it will work fine. Here is a coax loss calculator that might help you decide if it's worth upgrading to larger coax.

As you can see going to LMR 600 wouldn't help much.
If it has a solid center insulator like rg213 then it would be better. IMO
You can use the lmr400 just don't bend it sharply or wrap it around a small form.
I have saw older amps like the SB 220 rated for 2kw input. To my knowledge that was never a law and 1 kw DC input was changed to 1500 pep in 1983. The AM mode was grandfathered and allowed to run 1kw dc input until 1990 or 1991. I don't think he's that old school. His bio says he got his tech...
Oscillation problems tend to go away when a dummy load is used. It could be harmonics or spurs from the radio or an issue with the amplifier. If you have a cobra 25 or 29 laying around give it a try. If you still have issues you can try different jumpers between the radio and amp. 6 or 12 feet...

If you see someone get out of an expensive sports car in a parking lot do recommend a better automobile, lecture them about buying frivolous things and speeding? If you don't see the connection here please disregard.
I didn't realize who mentioned the lamps first. I ordered the stuff to roll a plate choke and need a lamp to test it. The mag wire is here the hdpe rod is to be delivered before 9 and the lamps are coming tomorrow.
