I view it as a form of Urban Exploration. Sort of like steam tunneling, roofing, exploring abandoned hospitals and factories, rail tunnels, etc.
Electronic Trespassing. A sort of transient Vandalism that leaves behind no trace.
I used to do it a lot before I got my General. Lots of guys...
That's always my fear with storms and high winds---that something will happen with or to my horses.
Glad everything is OK for you except of course the mess to clean up.
I like Joe. I don't agree with him on some things, but I think he and I have a similar way of seeing the world.
And there is no way in hell I'm ever going to try DMT. Weed is OK, but I don't mess with the bigger stuff anymore.
Real world gain for your vertical, using a half-wave dipole for reference is maybe 1.2 DB. Your Gizmotchy would be around 7 DB (I'm assuming it has gain similar to that of a 5 el Yagi) So that's around 6 DB over the vertical. So around 1 s-unit is reasonable. Then, factor in the different...
You might have a jealous report or two going on there too. Sometimes people just want to buzzkill.
I think your beam is working just fine. Play with it more, seek out more distant stations.
The fact that I think you said the beam is mounted a little lower will be a factor, and just the...
So I went to my local Radio Shack to get a 4-pin mic connector to rewire a desk mic, and they and all my local stores are out and don't seem too motivated to get any in. They offered to order ME one and ship it to a local store of my choice, but I'd rather not reward their sloppy and careless...
I had a KLV-400 and liked it a lot. I sold it because it was redundant, and I don't do much 11 meters anymore. It is really a 200-250 watt amp. You can get more out of it, but it won't hold up. Be nice to it and they are good, clean sounding amps.
I might be wrong about this, but commercial gear that is legal for GMRS might not say specifically GMRS. Rather it would be both part 90 and part 95 certificated.
The last time I was in London, I toured the Bush House, headquarters for the BBCWS. Of course, we've all known that this day was coming, but it still makes me sad for what we are losing.
I couldn't f'ing believe it when I heard about that! You have to pay them (50 bucks for the bases, I think) to plug in a little part and twist the mod pot all the way open, or they will keep a vital part of YOUR radio! What crooks!
