This is interesting to see someone say. I was getting the impression that there is a lack of repair technicians available. I have called places simply asking for parts, and if they do repairs, they often ask if I can handle some of their overflow, without even knowing what my level of...
Well, I found another set of these. I shot off an email to the guy a few weeks ago, and he finally got back to me. He seems to think that a full set is worth $1400. I was inquiring about this page: http://supersellerpages.com/product/sams-photofact-cb-repair-manuals/
Here is his reply:
They are obvious knock offs from ebay, but as I said, the original ones went out once I placed them back in the radio too. I didn't replace them until I wasn't getting signal from the old ones. That could be a problem though, I suspect. I have purchased other finals from the same seller, and...
They are 2321's.
As for where you think there might be a short, that picture was taken before I did anything. I have since removed all the solder, cleaned the board, resoldered everything, and cleaned off all the residue again. It looks quite different now, and I laid the caps over so I could...
Don't worry about asking "stupid" questions. After all, there are people that forget to turn the power on when they call tech support.
I did them separately, and just to be sure, I just counted my remaining 2312's and there are 8, while I have 9 2166's left. I started out with 10 of each. I...
I take pictures all the time for things that I may have trouble getting back together properly. For instance, I took pictures of the bottom side to see where the capacitors were mounted across those finals as well.
Also, I looked at the board layout view on CBTricks, and it shows the...
Well, I am getting no voltage on RX and on TX I get 0.866 volts on R255, and 8.61 volts on R256 and R257, although only R255 and R257 are 150 ohm, while R256 is only 18 ohm.
Thanks Andy,
I think I understand this, but I might be wrong. Do you mean test basically between TP2 and the collector of Q46? If so, I get 0.2 ohms. So, the trace is good.
As for the rest, I get 4.02 volts on TP3 in AM mode, which obviously means I get continuity from the regulator to the...
Other than the manuals, I think everything it's going up for sale. Although I don't want to, I may even sell the manuals. I haven't made up my mind.
I'm needing to come up with a spare $1500 in a fairly short amount of time. I had to borrow money from a friend a couple weeks ago for my dad's...
Well, I'm not sure if I'll need it until I can get the damn thing working again. Once I do, I'll know if what I've done has worked or not. I'll let you know. Thanks.
Okay, I have now screwed things up worse than they were. I get absolutely no output. I tested the driver and the finals, and all tested okay, so I just fully removed them, cleaned them, and applied new thermal compound, and replaced them, figuring I might as well, since I already had them...
Well, I drove down to Cincinnati and picked up a bunch of stuff from the guy. He was a really nice guy. 86 years old, and just can't do much anymore. I picked up the Photofacts, and it was absolutely a full set, with a few extras. The first three books were pretty hammered, but I have those...
The CPU stuff is fine, but radio finals don't need such expensive stuff. I usually use just Dow Corning 340 for most things. It's pretty good, but you can buy 5 oz for $30, which would cost $284 for the stuff I normally use on CPUs.
I honestly don't remember. I know I got the first one I ever got from eBay, but I picked a couple up from a local auction, and I picked up a couple from some site I stumbled on. It wasn't a normal electronics distributor like digikey though.
That makes it so I don't have to hope I have the right size fuse, and fuses are way overpriced anyway. Buy a circuit breaker for around $5, if I remember correctly, and do this. I have a 2A, 3A, and 5A one, and if something happens, the breaker trips instead of blowing a fuse.
Also, if you...
