Noise difference on SSB vs AM

I listened to the audio in the first post,... it sounds too regular to be arcing @ an insulator. It really sounds like the tapping type noise that spark plugs/ignitions make, except it is constant. edit..... Listened again,...it's an insulator arcing,... and its pretty loud. I bet it changes...

    Will it match..... question

How does a lower (power?) reading on a FSM result in a lower (SWR) reading on the fsm? The FSM doesn't generate any power , it (and everything past it) is a load you are adjusting the impedance that the transmitter "sees".

EXACTLY, most people don't know that toroids are identified by color,... although some of the Cineeee ones don't follow the color code.

5/8 Wave groundplane 1.5:1 SWR all over the band

Well, if it really is that important to you, you can always put the meter at an even multiple of a 1/2 elect wavelength and get a valid number.

BBI: I'll only sell this amplifier to a LICENSED AMATEUR OPERATOR...

If you're gonna do a video, at least have the correct slug for the meter. Nothing but a sales pitch. At least he does have an Amateur TECH license:rolleyes:

    vp2e antenna, drawn for 11m

Yeah, I was wondering why the schematic specified 50 Ohms at the feedpoint ... and never mentioned coax, LL, ect. Antenna is pretty simple to build. (and once it gets a little warmer outside ) to experiment with.

    Yaesu has discontinued the FT-857D

About an 18 years production run. I kinda wonder how many new IC 7300's will be sold in 2038.

    vp2e antenna, drawn for 11m

Agree, its a full wl OCF, fed @ about the 1/6 wl point. The 140 degree angle allows it to develop some gain in the off end direction. The diagram shows a feedpoint of 50 Ohms, so (if) coax fed, it must be a monoband antenna. Mounted that low, I don't see how it can not be a cloudwarmer.

    vp2e antenna, drawn for 11m

The original article was written in Russian, and the translation made some errors. This antenna cannot have circular radiation. Another translation states "the antenna thus configured has a substantial vertical component with a radiation pattern in a vertical plane."

It's a DRM Digital Radio Mondiale signal. https://www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/Digital_Radio_Mondiale_(DRM) click on the AUDIO SAMPLE arrow and listen The Chinese dragon is an AM signal playing music https://www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/Chinese_Firedrake_Jammer

5/8 Wave groundplane 1.5:1 SWR all over the band

If that were really correct, you wouldn't be worrying about a "1:1 match". Hint: see post $37

Thinking about gettin another Yaesu FT 450D

I may be wrong, but,...... I don't think he will do much listening to 30 meters. YMMV

DISTURBING: What do you do with a person like this?

Gee, I dunno. KFM is a mental case, but, I have never heard HIM threaten children, ....and for a few years I had a rig parked on .313 and before that, on .274. Bear in mind, that a LOT of the things he is blamed for are actually the result of very good audio editing by a certain Amateur living...

IMAX 2000 VS Sirio Tornado 27 (coming soon)

Actually , what he probably did, was to switch in and out an electrical 1/4 wave length in the feed line between 2 of the antennas. That will change the radiated pattern from a figure 8 @ 90 degrees to the antennas to a cardioid pattern.
